## Key points

- On October 11, 2026, X posts said some Claude Opus 5.5 requests were being answered by a newer model. The first came at 11:28 UTC; Pankaj Kumar's 15:01 UTC post, at 60K views, put Opus 5.6 in the headline.
- No post names the model with evidence. Opus 5.6 is a first guess, Fable 5.5 the alternative and one account says Opus 6; no post shows a model id.
- Anthropic's models overview, release notes and pricing page, read at 18:51 UTC, carry no Opus 5.6 or Fable 5.5. The newest Anthropic model on OpenRouter is Haiku 5.5, listed October 7.
- The check prompt is a knowledge test: ask about VoxelBench or the @legit_api account with search off. Opus 5.5's cutoff is June 2026, so a right answer shows newer knowledge, not a name.
- This has happened before. Fable 5.5 routing was reported on October 1 and 2 with no release since, and mid-September probes for an Opus 5.2 ended with Anthropic shipping Opus 5.5.
- An Opus 5.6 on October 11 would come 19 days after Opus 5.5, against 60 days from Opus 5 to Opus 5.5. CellCog runs every tier on Opus 5.5; a new Opus would be a same-day routing decision.

## At a glance

- **Is Claude Opus 5.6 released?** No. As of October 11, 2026, 18:51 UTC, Anthropic's models overview, release notes and pricing page list no Opus 5.6. The current Opus is Claude Opus 5.5, released September 22, 2026.
- **Is Opus 5.5 routing to Opus 5.6?** Unconfirmed. X posts on October 11 say some Opus 5.5 requests are answered by a newer model; the posters guess Opus 5.6 or Fable 5.5 (one says Opus 6), and no post shows a model id.
- **When is Opus 5.6 coming out?** Anthropic has given no date. Opus 5 to Opus 5.5 took 60 days; an Opus 5.6 now would come 19 days after Opus 5.5.

**Some Claude users say requests sent to Claude Opus 5.5 are being answered by a newer model, and the two guesses are Opus 5.6 and Fable 5.5.** The post that spread was Pankaj Kumar's, on X at 15:01 UTC on October 11, 2026, with 60.6K views when we read it at 18:53 UTC. He wrote that "Some accounts are getting routed to a new model when using Opus 5.5", named Opus 5.6 as his first guess and Fable 5.5 as the other, and added: "Both are possible, but I couldn't test it myself as my account is not routing."

As of 18:51 UTC on October 11, Anthropic has said nothing. Its [models overview](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/models/overview), [release notes](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/release-notes/overview) and [pricing page](https://platform.claude.com/docs/en/about-claude/pricing), read as Markdown at that minute, contain no Opus 5.6 and no Fable 5.5, and the newest Anthropic model on [OpenRouter](https://openrouter.ai/anthropic) is Claude Haiku 5.5, listed October 7. The current Opus is [Claude Opus 5.5](https://cellcog.ai/blog/claude-opus-5-5-release-date/), released September 22.

## What we actually know

*Table: Opus 5.6 claims vs verifiable status, October 11, 2026, 18:53 UTC*

| Claim | Status |
|---|---|
| Some Opus 5.5 requests reach a newer model | X posts, October 11; no Anthropic document, no model id in any post |
| The newer model is Opus 5.6 | A first guess, labeled as a guess by the poster |
| The newer model is Fable 5.5 | Named as the other possibility in the same posts |
| The newer model is Opus 6 | One account, 16:03 UTC, inside a predicted release sequence; no artifact |
| It shows at High or Max effort | Posts say to set Opus 5.5 to High; the first post used Max |
| A prompt confirms it | Knowledge questions, which test what a model knows, not its name |
| A launch is close | Inference from the reports; no date from anyone |

## The reports, dated

*Table: Routing reports on X, October 11, 2026 (times from the post ids, UTC)*

| Time | What the post says | Account and views |
|---|---|---|
| 11:28 | Opus 5.5 is routing to a new model, Fable 5.5 or a new Opus; a JavaScript animation as the sample | @chetaslua, 104.4K |
| 14:32 | Calls it Claude Next under test in Claude Code; posts a check prompt for Opus 5.5 at High effort | @chetaslua, 37.4K |
| 15:01 | Opus 5.5 routing to Opus 5.6 as a first guess, Fable 5.5 possible; could not test it himself | @pankajkumar_dev, 60.6K |
| 16:03 | Anthropic has started testing Opus 6; predicts Fable 5.5, then GPT-6 Bel, then Opus 6 | @IndependentEco, 12K |
| 17:29 | A gray release: Opus 5.5 High routing to Fable 5.5 or Opus 5.6, with two knowledge questions | @NFT_Chen, 1.5K |
| 17:36 to 18:34 | Relays of the 15:01 text and questions about it | several accounts, under 400 each |

The first claim came from @chetaslua, who wrote at 11:28 UTC that "Claude Opus 5.5 is routing to a new model" and, in the same post, "this can be fable 5.5 or new opus i have no idea". The sample was an animation he said took two prompts, two hours and 27 million tokens at Max thinking effort. Three hours later he wrote "Claude Next is being tested on claude code" and posted a check prompt to run on Opus 5.5 with effort set to High, plus a Discord server for direct access.

Pankaj's post is the one that put Opus 5.6 in the headline, and his own words make it a guess: he had not been routed. Most of what followed through the afternoon repeats his text.

An hour later a third number joined. At 16:03 UTC @IndependentEco wrote "Anthropic has started testing Opus 6." and, in a reply, "People are being routed to it right now in testing." The same post lays out a predicted sequence, Fable 5.5 first, then an OpenAI answer, then Opus 6, so the Opus 6 label is a forecast pinned to the same routing reports, not a separate sighting. Three names for one unidentified model is the strongest sign that nobody outside Anthropic knows which it is.

## What the confirmation prompt measures

@NFT_Chen's post gives two questions to ask Opus 5.5 at High effort with search off: whether it knows VoxelBench, and whether it knows the @legit_api account. A right answer means you are in the test, the post says, because "Standard 5.5 knowledge cutoff is earlier, so it usually can't answer accurately".

Anthropic's models overview lists Opus 5.5's reliable knowledge cutoff and its training data cutoff as June 2026. So a correct answer about something that only became known after June would be a real signal about knowledge. It is no signal about the name. A newer Opus checkpoint, a Fable model, a refreshed Opus 5.5 snapshot, or memory or retrieval leaking into the answer would all pass the same test, and none of the posts says when VoxelBench or the account first appeared online.

*Table: What each kind of evidence would and would not tell you*

| Signal | What it shows | What it cannot show |
|---|---|---|
| A knowledge question answered (VoxelBench, @legit_api) | The model answering knows something past a June 2026 cutoff, if search is truly off | Which model it is, its name, or whether it ships |
| Output that seems stronger | One poster's judgment on one task | A controlled comparison; no benchmark has been posted |
| A model id in an API response | The served model, by name | Not seen: no post shows one |
| An Anthropic doc, price row or model page | A release | Not seen as of 18:51 UTC |

## Reports like this before, and what followed

Pankaj has reported a quiet test before. On October 2 he wrote "Fable 5.5 is getting routed on the web from Fable 5.1." and "Someone I know got routed, so I took that account and tested it." Nine days later there is still no Fable 5.5 in any Anthropic document; our [Fable 5.5 tracker](https://cellcog.ai/blog/fable-5-5-release-date/) holds that chain.

*Table: Earlier Anthropic routing and probe reports, and what followed*

| When | The report | What happened |
|---|---|---|
| Mid-September | An Opus 5.2, argued from knowledge probes | Anthropic shipped Opus 5.5 on September 22; no Opus 5.2 ever appeared ([record](https://cellcog.ai/blog/claude-opus-5-2-release-date/)) |
| September 18 | Fable 5.1 routing to a newer Fable in Claude Code | No new Fable as of October 11 |
| October 1 and 2 | Fable 5.1 routing to Fable 5.5 on the web | No Fable 5.5 as of October 11 |
| October 11 | Opus 5.5 routing to Opus 5.6 or Fable 5.5 | This page |

One earlier cycle ended in a release within days, under a different number than the rumor used. The two Fable cycles have not ended. A routing report has been a fair sign that something is being tested, and a poor guide to what it will be called.

## Anthropic's release pace

*Table: Anthropic model releases since June 2026, from its release notes*

| Model | Released | Days after the previous release |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Fable 5 | June 9, 2026 | first in the table |
| Claude Opus 5 | July 24, 2026 | 45 |
| Claude Fable 5.1 | September 1, 2026 | 39 |
| Claude Opus 5.5 | September 22, 2026 | 21 |
| Claude Sonnet 5.5 | September 28, 2026 | 6 |
| Claude Haiku 5.5 | October 7, 2026 | 9 |

Anthropic has released six models in four months, so a seventh in October fits its pace. An Opus 5.6 on October 11 would come 19 days after Opus 5.5, against 60 days from Opus 5 to Opus 5.5: the fastest Opus turn yet. A Fable 5.5 would come 40 days after Fable 5.1, against 84 days from Fable 5 to Fable 5.1.

## What would confirm it

- A model id such as `claude-opus-5-6` or `claude-fable-5-5` in Anthropic's models overview, release notes or pricing page.
- An Anthropic announcement, or a line in the Claude app's release notes.
- A catalog row on OpenRouter, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud or Microsoft Foundry.
- An API response naming a different model for a `claude-opus-5-5` request.

Another animation, another correct knowledge answer or another post with a guess would not. Those go in the tables above.

## What it means if you use Opus 5.5

Every report so far comes from the Claude app or Claude Code, where the poster picks Opus 5.5 and an effort level. None of the posts names an API request to the `claude-opus-5-5` id. If the reports are right, some accounts are getting a different model's answers under the Opus 5.5 label without notice, which matters most to anyone comparing results across days.

## Where CellCog sits

CellCog runs every tier on Claude Opus 5.5 through the API, and has since September 22 ([what changed](https://cellcog.ai/blog/cellcog-opus-5-5-day-one/)). If Anthropic ships an Opus 5.6 or a Fable 5.5, moving to it is a same-day routing decision, and this page becomes its record.

## What we are watching

- Anthropic's models overview, release notes and pricing page, read on every news watch.
- The OpenRouter catalog for a new Anthropic id.
- Whether anyone posts an API response or a model id string, not just output.
- Whether the Fable 5.5 reports and these merge into one release, or two.

## Update log

- October 11, 2026: page opened, the same day as the first routing post.
- October 11, 2026, 20:15 UTC: added @IndependentEco's Opus 6 claim (16:03 UTC), a third name for the same reports.

## FAQ

**How do people check whether they are routed?**

One post says to set Opus 5.5 to High effort, turn search off, and ask whether it knows VoxelBench or the @legit_api account. A right answer shows knowledge past Opus 5.5's June 2026 cutoff, not which model answered.

**Is it Opus 5.6 or Fable 5.5?**

Nobody knows. The posts name both as guesses, and one account, @IndependentEco, says Opus 6. A Fable 5.5 has been rumored since September; our Fable 5.5 tracker holds that chain.

**Does it affect the Claude API?**

No post so far names an API request to the claude-opus-5-5 id. The reports come from the Claude app and Claude Code.

**Has this happened before?**

Yes. Fable 5.5 routing was reported on October 1 and 2 with no release since. Mid-September knowledge probes for an Opus 5.2 were followed by Anthropic shipping Opus 5.5 on September 22.

**What would CellCog do if Opus 5.6 ships?**

CellCog runs every tier on Claude Opus 5.5. A new Opus would be a same-day routing decision, recorded on this page. We build CellCog, so read that answer as ours.
