This guide will help you get started with the platform and navigate its key features. --- ## What is CellCog? CellCog lets you **hire AI employees for any role** — general-purpose AI workers that show up with their own inbox, work real shifts, and act on the goals and permissions you set, all while you sleep. Each one is built on CellCog's super-agent foundation: state-of-the-art deep research, content creation, and task automation across every modality (reports, videos, images, code, and much more). Click **"New Chat"** in the sidebar (or the ✨ sparkle icon) 2. Type your request in the editor at the bottom 3. Optionally select: - **Project**: Associate the chat with a team workspace - **Agent**: Choose a specialized agent role - **Mode**: Select an agent (Agent, Agent Creative, Agent Team) and a tier (Flash, Core, Max) - **Cowork**: Let the agent read, edit, and run commands on your computer (requires the [CellCog Desktop app](./CellCog_Cowork_Guide.md)) - **Browse**: Let the agent use your real Chrome browser (requires the [CellCog Browse extension](./CellCog_Browse_my_Chrome_Guide.md)) 4. Press **Enter** or click the send button ### Chat Modes Explained | Mode | Best For | |------|----------| | **Agent** | Fast, iterative — suitable for most work | | **Agent Creative** | Design, brand, and other creative work — our most imaginative agent | | **Agent Team** | Deep research & multi-angled reasoning, every modality | Each mode runs at a **tier** — **Flash, Core, or Max** — that sets how much power it runs with: Flash is quick and economical, Core is the balanced everyday point, and Max is the deepest reasoning. Creative has no Flash tier. A fresh chat opens on **Agent · Max**. **Agent** is the most versatile mode — similar to Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or Cursor Agent, but built for every modality. One AI agent that works fast and iterates on your feedback. **Agent Creative** is the same single agent tuned for taste. It excels as a product manager and designer — web and UI design, 3D generation, visual content, and ambitious one-shot creative builds. Avoid it for programmatic work or deep research — Agent and Agent Team are better fits there. **Agent Team** uses multiple agents that research deeply, challenge each other's findings, and deliver comprehensive results. Best for deep research where multi-angled reasoning matters. On the **Max tier**, every setting is dialed up — best for legal analysis, financial decisions, and other high-stakes work where the extra quality justifies the cost. You can switch between Agent and Agent Creative, and change any tier, in the middle of a chat — changes apply from your next message. Agent Team is chosen when a chat starts and can't be changed mid-conversation. --- ## Key Features at a Glance ### AI Employees Hire general-purpose AI workers for any role. Each AI employee gets its own email inbox, works real shifts (scheduled or on demand), keeps a memory across shifts, maintains a task board, and can hand work off to your other AI employees — acting on the goals and permissions you set. Click **"New Chat"** in the sidebar 2. Type your prompt in the editor 3. Press **Enter** or click send --- ## Uploading Files You can attach files directly to any chat message. Each file can be up to **1GB** — uploads larger than 100MB automatically use resumable transfer, so a flaky connection picks up where it left off instead of starting over. Images are limited to **25MB** per file, and files imported from Google Drive are currently limited to **100MB**. Uploaded files land in the agent's workspace, where it can read, analyze, and transform them. --- ## Chat Modes — the Mode × Tier System Every chat runs on two settings you pick together in the selector: a **mode** (which agent does the work) and a **tier** (how much power it runs with — **Flash · Core · Max**). Any combination is one click, and every mode row carries an info icon that opens a learn card with Speed and Depth meters, so the tradeoff is visible before you pick. ### The Modes #### Agent Mode **Best for:** - Fast, iterative work — suitable for most tasks - Step-by-step control with feedback after each task - The most versatile mode — building, editing, research, coding, co-work **Think of it as:** Similar to Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, or Cursor Agent — but built for every modality, not just coding. One AI agent that executes your instructions, iterates on feedback, and produces videos, images, reports, code, and more. **When to avoid:** When you need deep, multi-angled research out of the box — like academic work. Agent Team does that by default. #### Agent Creative **Best for:** - Web design, UI design, and frontend/visual work - 3D generation and other creative content - Product thinking — it excels as a product manager and designer - Ambitious one-shot creative builds **Think of it as:** Our most imaginative agent — the same single agent as Agent Mode, tuned for taste. Give it a design brief and it delivers polished, opinionated results. **When to avoid:** Programmatic work, coding-heavy tasks, or deep research — use Agent Mode for fast iterative/programmatic work and Agent Team for deep research. #### Agent Team **Best for:** - Deep multi-angled reasoning from multiple perspectives - Deep reasoning across every modality — reports, videos, images, code, PDFs - A team of agents that debates, cross-validates, and delivers comprehensive results **Think of it as:** A team of specialized agents that research deeply, challenge each other's findings, and produce well-rounded outputs in any format you need. **When to avoid:** When you expect many iterations to reach the final output. Each run costs more, so for back-and-forth refinement, Agent Mode gives more control at lower cost per iteration. ### The Tiers | Tier | What it means | |------|---------------| | **Flash** | Runs on frontier flash models — answers begin almost immediately. The quick, economical point for everyday questions and edits. | | **Core** | The balanced everyday point — real reasoning depth on a frontier model. | | **Max** | The deepest configuration we can build for that agent. | - **Agent Creative has no Flash tier** — creative judgment needs thinking time, so its tiers start at Core. - **Defaults:** a fresh chat opens on **Agent Mode · Max**; Creative and Team default to **Core**. ### Switching Mid-Chat The selector stays live inside a conversation: switch between Agent Mode and Agent Creative, or change any mode's tier, at any time — changes apply from your next message, with no lost context. The one exception is **Agent Team**: its multi-agent setup is created when the chat is born, so Team is chosen at creation and can't be switched on or off mid-conversation. ### What happened to Agent Team Max? It became a cell on the grid: **Agent Team on the Max tier** — every setting maximised, for high-stakes work like legal analysis and financial decisions where quality justifies the extra cost. Same premium orchestration as before, and existing Agent Team Max chats keep their exact behavior. --- ## Chats vs. AI Employees The chat modes above are how you work with a CellCog super-agent **directly** — you send a message, it responds. If you instead want a worker that runs on its own — with its own email inbox, a schedule, a persistent task board, and the autonomy to act while you're away — hire an **AI Employee** from the AI Employees surface. An AI employee runs on the same super-agent engine, but it works in shifts, remembers across them, and can even delegate to your other AI employees. Find the chat in the **sidebar** (under "Chats") 2. Hover over the chat name 3. Click the **three-dot menu (⋮)** that appears 4. Select **"Delete"** 5. Confirm the deletion in the dialog **⚠️ Warning:** Deleting a chat permanently removes: - All messages and conversation history - Generated files, code, and apps - Associated media - Uploaded files This action cannot be undone. --- ## Agent Computer The Agent Computer lets you see the agent's workspace: 1. Click **"Agent Computer"** in the chat header 2. Browse the filesystem to see: - Generated files - Downloaded resources - Code and applications 3. Click files to preview them 4. Use the toolbar to navigate This is helpful for understanding what the agent has created and accessing files directly. --- ## Save Artifacts Save generated content to persistent storage: 1. Click **"Save Artifacts"** in the chat header 2. Choose destination: - **Drive**: Your personal file storage - **Projects**: Team workspace documents - **Organization**: Company-wide documents 3. Select files to save 4. Confirm the save **Tip:** Use this to preserve important outputs before the chat is deleted. --- ## Update Agent Memory For project chats with agent roles, you can manually update the agent's memory: 1. Click the **three-dot menu (⋮)** in the header 2. Select **"Update Agent Memory"** 3. Optionally provide instructions for what the agent should store 4. The agent will review the chat and store relevant artifacts and insights This option only appears when your chat has an agent role assigned. The same memory update process also runs automatically after ~45 minutes of chat inactivity. **Requirements:** - Chat must be linked to a project - Chat must have an agent role assigned - Chat must not be currently operating See [Memory System & Context Trees Guide](./CellCog_Memory_System_Guide.md) for details on how agent memory works. --- ## Chat Sidebar Features The sidebar shows your recent chats with: - **Chat icon/thumbnail**: Visual identifier - **Chat name**: Auto-generated or custom - **Operating indicator**: Green dot when agent is working - **Hover tooltip**: Shows project, mode, and last updated time ### Filtering Chats Chats can be filtered by project using the project selector in the sidebar navigation. --- ## Complex Workflows & Multi-Step Tasks CellCog agents excel at complex, multi-step workflows described in natural language. You don't need special syntax, modules, or workflow builders — just describe what you need. ### How It Works Write your prompt as a natural sequence of steps. The agent will execute them in order, using earlier results to inform later steps. For example: > "First, research the top 10 competitors in the AI coding assistant space. Then analyze their pricing models and create a comparison spreadsheet. Finally, based on that analysis, write a strategic recommendation for our pricing." The agent will: 1. Complete the research phase 2. Analyze and create the spreadsheet 3. Use those findings to write the recommendation ### Tips for Complex Prompts - **Be explicit about sequence:** "First do X, then based on those results, do Y" - **Mention output formats:** "Create a spreadsheet for the data, then a PDF report for the analysis" - **Set expectations for each stage:** "The research should cover at least 10 sources" or "The recommendation should be 2-3 pages" - **Use Agent Team mode** for tasks requiring deep multi-angled reasoning across stages ### Our Users Regularly Submit Complex Prompts CellCog's average first prompt is quite long — our users routinely submit multi-step jobs with multiple deliverables in a single message. This is one of CellCog's core strengths: the ability to take a complex, multi-deliverable brief and execute it end-to-end, producing multiple formatted outputs (reports, spreadsheets, presentations, images) in one go. ### When to Use Workflows vs Prompts - **Text prompts** (most cases): Describe your workflow in natural language directly in the chat. This works for the vast majority of complex tasks. - **Workflows feature**: For recurring multi-step processes you run regularly, use the Workflows feature to define reusable automation sequences. This saves time when you have a standard process you repeat often. --- ## Frequently Asked Questions ### How do I rename a chat? Chats are automatically named based on content. The AI agent assigns a descriptive name after analyzing your conversation. ### Can I recover a deleted chat? No. Chat deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Make sure to save important artifacts before deleting. ### How do I continue a previous chat? Click on any chat in the sidebar to continue the conversation. Click **Create** Agents can be selected when starting a new chat. **What agent roles actually do:** Agent roles are more than just saved instructions — they are **repeatable role assignments** with their own persistent memory. Each agent role gets: 1. **Instructions you don't have to repeat** — Define the agent's behavior once, and it applies to every chat with that role 2. **Automatic long-term memory** — After ~45 minutes of chat inactivity, the agent stores relevant learnings and artifacts into its own private document store. Next time you chat with the same role, it remembers previous work. For example, if you have a project for a content series and create an "Episode Producer" agent role, the agent will remember previous episodes, your style preferences, and continuity details across sessions — without you having to re-explain anything. The agent role selector in the chat editor shows how many **memory documents** each role has accumulated, giving you visibility into the agent's knowledge. There's no strict limit on document count, but total storage is limited by your plan. ### Can I move documents between projects? Currently, you need to download and re-upload to move documents between projects. ### Who can see my project documents? Only project members (Admins and Members) can see project documents. ### What happens if I leave a project? You lose access to the project and its documents. Your previous chats remain but won't have document access. ### Can agents access all project documents? Yes. When you start a chat linked to a project, all project documents are **automatically available** to the agents — you don't need to attach them to each chat. This is different from chat attachments, which only exist for a single conversation. ### What's the difference between project documents and agent role memory? **Project documents** are shared assets accessible to all agents in the project — like brand guidelines, datasets, or specs. **Agent role memory** is private to a specific agent role and contains its accumulated learnings from past sessions. Think of project docs as "team knowledge" and agent memory as "personal experience." This guide explains how it works and how to use it effectively. --- ## What Are Context Trees? A Context Tree is a hierarchical document store — think of it as an organized knowledge base that both you and AI agents can read from and write to. Context Trees are a core building block of CellCog. Both humans and agents can read from and write to them. Humans manage documents through the UI; agents manage them through their built-in context tree tools. --- ## How Agent Role Memory Works This is the most powerful and often misunderstood feature. Here's exactly what happens: ### What Is an Agent Role? An agent role is a **repeatable role assignment** you create within a project. It has: - **Title**: e.g., "Episode Producer," "Marketing Analyst," "Solution Architect" - **Description**: What this agent does - **Instructions**: Specific guidelines for how the agent should behave Agent roles serve two purposes: 1. **Save you from repeating instructions** — Instead of pasting the same instructions every chat, you define them once as a role 2. **Give the agent its own persistent memory** — Each agent role gets its own private document store (context tree) that it maintains automatically ### The Automatic Memory Process When you start a chat linked to a project and an agent role, here's the lifecycle: 1. **Chat starts** — The agent loads its context tree memory from previous sessions, plus all project documents 2. **You work together** — The agent generates artifacts (reports, code, images, analysis, etc.) 3. **Chat goes idle** — After approximately 45 minutes of inactivity, a background process kicks in 4. **Memory update** — The agent reviews what happened in the session and stores relevant artifacts and learnings into its own context tree 5. **Next session** — When you start a new chat with the same agent role, it loads its updated memory and "remembers" previous work **This is the only place in CellCog where long-term memory is automatically maintained.** Only chats with an assigned agent role trigger this background memory process. Regular chats (without an agent role) do not have this automatic memory. This guide explains what an AI employee is, how to hire one, and how all of its parts — shifts, wake conditions, email, tasks, dashboards, and controls — actually work. --- ## What is an AI employee? Most "AI tools" wait for you to prompt them, one message at a time. An AI employee is different: it owns a role. It has its own email address, a task board, a persistent memory, and the autonomy to act on the goals and permissions you give it — including handing work off to your other AI employees, or back to you when it needs a decision. Under the hood, an AI employee **is** a CellCog super-agent — the same deep-reasoning engine that powers our chat modes — given a name, a memory, an inbox, and a shift. That's why it isn't boxed into one narrow job: it can research, analyze data, write code, create documents and media, and operate the tools you connect. Like any chat, an employee runs at a **mode and tier** (see the [Chat Guide](./CellCog_Chat_Guide.md)): Agent Mode or Agent Creative, at any tier — Flash, Core, or Max. You can change its operating point mid-employment from its settings or a shift chat, and future shifts inherit the change. When you hire, you set: - **Role & type** — whether the employee is for a business, a nonprofit, or personal use, plus a hint of the role you have in mind (e.g. marketing, sales outreach, customer support, research, operations). You're not picking from a fixed menu — you define the role. - **Setup instructions** — a short brief telling the employee what you want it to do. It uses its first (setup) shift to get oriented and, with you, define its role. - **Schedule** — an optional recurring shift schedule (e.g. every weekday morning) in your timezone. You can also leave it unscheduled and run shifts on demand. - **Permissions** — optionally let the employee work on your machine (Cowork), in your Chrome (Browse), and use your connected tools (Personal Tools). **The credit gate.** Hiring an AI employee requires the same minimum account balance as starting a chat in Agent mode — if you can chat, you can hire. AI employees are generally available. If your balance is short, you'll see exactly how many credits are needed and how to top up. --- ## Identity: a name, a title, and its own email During its setup shift, the employee gives itself an **identity**: a name, a job title (e.g. "Head of Content"), and — if it's working for a business — your company name. These show up as its signature, like *"Maya · Cold Outreach, Credflow."* The title and company can be refined later (a promotion, a rebrand); the name and email are permanent. Every employee also claims its **own email address** — `name@cellcog.com` — which is how it sends and receives real email in the world. --- ## Shifts: how an AI employee works An AI employee doesn't run forever in one session. It works in **shifts** — discrete working sessions that share one workspace, one memory, and one set of dashboards. A rotating series of shifts behaves like one continuous employee because each shift writes a **handover note** ("dear next-me") for the one that follows. **What starts a shift:** - **Setup** — the first shift, right after you hire, where it gets oriented and names itself. - **Scheduled** — its work schedule says it's time. - **Manual** — you start one on demand. **How a shift spends.** A shift spends credits from your account balance as it works — there is no per-shift allowance to configure. The employee is trained to spend with judgment on the highest-value work, and each shift naturally winds down and hands off cleanly when its working memory fills. If your balance runs low, the employee pauses itself and resumes automatically once your balance recovers. **Tip:** enabling [Auto-Recharge](./CellCog_Billing_Guide.md) is the recommended way to run AI employees — your balance refills automatically so funding is never the reason an employee stalls. **Two ways a shift runs:** - **Autonomous** — no one is in the conversation. It works through its tasks and clocks out with a wind-down and a handover. - **Conversation** — you message the employee during its shift; it talks back like a normal chat, then returns to its work. **Winding down & handovers.** When a shift finishes (or it decides to hand off to a fresh shift mid-task), it writes a handover so the next shift picks up exactly where it left off — nothing is lost between shifts. **Pause & resume.** You can pause an employee any time (it stops taking shifts) and resume it later. If your credit balance dips too low for a shift, the employee pauses itself and automatically resumes once your balance recovers. --- ## Wake conditions: what brings an employee to work **Wake conditions** are the events that start (or resume) a shift. For each custom wake condition you can write plain-language instructions ("what to do when this fires"). --- ## Email & inbox Each employee has a real inbox and works it like a person would: - **Threads persist across shifts** — a conversation started weeks ago keeps its full history, so any shift can compose a context-aware reply. - **Snooze** — it can snooze a thread to follow up later; an incoming reply automatically un-snoozes it. - **Follow-up tracking** — it keeps two-way threads on its radar to follow up, while one-way sends (like an announcement) don't nag for a reply. - **Flag for you** — when a thread needs your judgment, it flags it for you instead of guessing. --- ## The task list Every employee keeps a persistent **task board** (visible to you on its dashboard) that carries across shifts: - **Statuses** — to-do, done, blocked, cancelled, and **waiting on you** (a "Waiting on you" lane for real-world steps only you can do). There's deliberately no "in progress": a task is to-do until the employee completes it. - **Recurring tasks** — a task can repeat on a calendar cadence (e.g. every weekday) without cluttering the board with copies. - **Dependencies** — a task can be blocked by another; the employee skips blocked work until its blockers clear. - **Comments & attachments** — you and the employee can comment on a task (with files), creating a shared, chronological record. --- ## Working as a team: cross-employee delegation Your AI employees aren't isolated bots. An employee can see your other employees and **hand a task to a coworker** when the job calls for a different role — and that coworker wakes up to take it on (the "Task assigned by a coworker" wake condition). They work as a team, handing tasks between each other and back to you. **Supervisors & teams.** An employee can report to another of your AI employees — or to any **human** in your organization — as its manager: your org is a tree of teams, each with one leader, and a member's manager is its team's leader. A trained AI lead can onboard and coordinate new hires, a human department head can direct an employee's priorities, and your sidebar shows the whole org structure as a tree. You (and the involved employees) can change who reports to whom at any time, and you always remain the ultimate owner: approvals, permissions, credentials, and billing stay with you regardless of the hierarchy. --- ## Dashboards An employee can build and maintain **live dashboards** — your window into "what is my employee doing, and is it working?" Each dashboard is a real page kept fresh across shifts (served under the employee's own app space), with a change log of what changed each shift and why. This is the trust surface: you watch the numbers move without having to read every shift. --- ## Staying in control AI employees are autonomous, but you hold the controls: - **Approval thresholds** — anything sensitive (acting on your machine, your browser, or your connected tools) is classified by risk. Employees run at a **Moderate or Dangerous** auto-approve floor, so the riskier the action, the more likely it routes to you for sign-off rather than happening on its own. - **Standing & timed approvals** — when an employee needs to do a recurring sensitive action (e.g. "up to 5 outreach emails a day"), it asks you once; you grant a standing or time-limited approval it can then rely on. Keys are also captured automatically when you connect an API-key-based tool, so you never paste the same credential twice. The simple rule: **Tools** are connections you authorize with a click so agents can call actions directly; **Keys** are credentials you paste that agents' own scripts use. Many real workflows use them together (e.g., "research these 8 SaaS products in Chrome, then write a comparison report into my project directory"). --- ## Getting Started ### Step 1: Install the CellCog Desktop App Browse my Chrome runs on top of the CellCog Desktop app — the same app used by Cowork on my PC. 1. Go to **Browse my Chrome** in the sidebar (or visit `/cowork/browse`) 2. If you haven't installed the Desktop app yet, follow the prompts to download it for your platform (macOS, Windows, Linux) 3. Install, open, and sign in If you already have CellCog Desktop installed and connected (from using Cowork), skip to Step 2. On the **Browse my Chrome** page, locate the Chrome profile you want to use 2. Click **"Install →"** next to that profile (this opens the Chrome Web Store listing) 3. Add the extension to Chrome ### Step 3: Open Chrome with the Chosen Profile The Chrome extension lives inside a specific Chrome profile. After installation, make sure that profile is open in Chrome so the extension can connect to the Desktop app. You'll know it's working when: - The **Browse my Chrome** page shows a green **"Ready"** strip - The profile name appears beneath it (e.g., "Personal" or "Work · acme.com") ### Step 4: Set Your Approval Threshold Before enabling Browse in a chat, decide how much you trust the agent's self-classification. On the Browse my Chrome page, find the **Auto-approve threshold** section and pick one of four levels — see [Threat Levels and Auto-Approval](#threat-levels-and-auto-approval) below for details. The default is **Moderate** — private reads auto-run, but anything that changes data or acts on your behalf still requires approval. ### Step 5: Enable Browse for a Chat 1. Start a new chat or open an existing one 2. In the message editor toolbar, click the **globe icon** (the Browse selector) 3. Pick the Chrome profile you want this chat to use 4. Send your message When you enable Browse, Cowork is also enabled automatically — Browse requires the Desktop app to be connected, and Cowork is how the chat talks to the Desktop app. --- ## Using Browse my Chrome in Chats ### The CellCog Tab Group When the agent first opens a tab in Chrome, it creates a cyan tab group labeled **"CellCog"** in your Chrome tab strip. This group is the shared agent workspace: - Every browse-enabled chat in the same Chrome profile sees the tabs inside this group - Tabs **outside** the group are private to you — the agent cannot read or interact with them on its own - You can collapse/expand the group, drag it around, close individual tabs, and it survives Chrome restarts (it's a standard Chrome tab group) ### Adopting Tabs You Already Have Open If you already have a tab open that the agent should work with (e.g., your half-completed visa form), the agent can **adopt** it into the CellCog tab group. Because adopting necessarily moves your personal tab into the shared workspace, this action is classified as **moderate** and respects your threshold — at threshold Safe it requires your approval each time. ### Snapshots, Screenshots, and Form Interaction The agent perceives pages in three main ways: - **Snapshot** — an accessibility-tree view of the page (headings, links, form fields, button states). This is the primary way the agent understands what's on the page. - **Screenshot** — a visual capture for review or to share with you in chat. - **Form fills, clicks, navigation** — the agent can fill inputs and click buttons just like a person, including across logged-in flows. ### Multiple Profiles If you have multiple Chrome profiles (e.g., Personal + Work), each one needs the extension installed separately. Once installed, each chat is bound to one specific profile via the Browse selector in the editor. The Browse my Chrome page shows the install state of every profile so you know exactly which one is missing the extension. --- ## How the Agent Interacts with Pages The agent uses Chrome's built-in `chrome.debugger` API (the same API used by Chrome DevTools and other AI-browser tools like OpenAI Codex and Browserbase) to navigate and act on pages. There's no separate browser launched and no special launch flag — it's your real Chrome doing real things. When the agent reads a page, it gets: - Page URL and title - Visible text and accessibility tree - Form field values (passwords and credit-card fields are **always redacted**) - Form state (checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdown selections) When the agent takes an action, it can: - Navigate to a URL - Click buttons and links - Fill form fields - Press keys - Take screenshots - Read or set cookies / localStorage (declared as moderate or dangerous depending on direction) --- ## Threat Levels and Auto-Approval CellCog uses a transparent **agent-classifies, user-threshold-gates** model. The agent classifies every action by what data it touches; you control which classifications auto-approve. ### How the Agent Classifies Actions Every browser action falls into exactly one of three risk levels, based on a simple question: **what data does this command touch?** | Level | What it means | Examples | |---|---|---| | **Safe** | No private read, no data change. | Reading a Wikipedia article, navigating to a public URL, expanding a menu, searching on google.com | | **Moderate** | Reads your private data but changes nothing. | Snapshotting Gmail / a private repo / banking, reading `document.cookie`, listing or adopting personal tabs | | **Dangerous** | Changes data or triggers an irreversible action. | Submitting forms, sending email, paying, deleting, writing cookies, downloading files | The agent shows you both the classification AND a one-sentence reason on the approval card. You're always picking how much to trust the agent's own self-classification — not picking a category of content the system identifies. ### Setting Your Threshold The Browse my Chrome page has four threshold levels. Anything above your threshold still requires your manual approval on the approval card in chat. | Threshold | What it auto-approves | |---|---| | **None** | Nothing — every browser action requires your approval. The strictest setting. | | **Safe** | Side-effect-free actions on public content. Reading your private pages and any data changes still require approval. | | **Moderate** | Also auto-approves actions that read your private data — logged-in page snapshots, cookies, personal-tab discovery. Anything that changes data still requires approval. | | **Dangerous** | Auto-approves everything the agent declares — including actions that change data. The most permissive setting. | Most users settle into **Safe** or **Moderate**. **Dangerous** is intended for advanced workflows where the user trusts a specific agent role completely (e.g., a project-scoped agent reviewing their own work) — not a default. ### The Yellow Banner — Chrome's Enforced Safety Indicator Chrome shows a **yellow banner across the top** of every tab CellCog is driving: > *"CellCog Browse started debugging this browser."* — **Cancel** This is Chrome's built-in safety indicator. CellCog cannot hide or suppress it. Click **"Cancel"** at any time to immediately revoke debugger access for that tab — the agent will see an error on its next attempt and can prompt you to re-enable in the Browse my Chrome settings. ### Revoking Access Entirely You have multiple escape hatches, at different scopes: - **Single tab**: Click "Cancel" on the yellow banner - **Single chat**: Toggle the globe icon off in the editor toolbar - **All chats in this Chrome profile**: Disable the extension at `chrome://extensions/` - **All of CellCog on this machine**: Quit the CellCog Desktop app --- ## Privacy and Safety ### What the Extension Can See When Browse is enabled for a chat: - Page content (text, URLs, accessibility tree) of tabs **inside** the CellCog tab group - Form values on those tabs (excluding passwords and credit-card fields — those are auto-redacted) - Screenshots of those tabs when the agent captures them - The list of all open tabs in your Chrome profile (only when the agent runs `Browser_Tabs list`, which is classified **moderate**) ### What the Extension Cannot See on Its Own - Tabs outside the CellCog tab group (your personal browsing) - Browsing history - Bookmarks - Saved passwords (Chrome's password manager) - Tabs in a different Chrome profile (each profile is independent) - Anything when Browse is not enabled for a chat ### Sensitive-Data Redaction The extension automatically redacts before any data leaves Chrome: - **Password fields** (`type=password`) - **Credit-card number fields** (`autocomplete=cc-number`) - **Credit-card CSC fields** (`autocomplete=cc-csc`) These values are replaced with `` in everything the agent reads. ### Cookies, localStorage, Screenshots These are **not** auto-redacted because they sometimes legitimately need to flow through the agent (e.g., the agent reads a session cookie to make an authenticated API call on your behalf): - **Cookies and localStorage** — only read when the agent's script explicitly requests them. Classified **moderate** for reads, **dangerous** for writes. - **Screenshots** — capture whatever is visible. If you're on Gmail or a banking page, that's what the screenshot will show. Classified at the agent's discretion based on the page content (typically moderate for logged-in surfaces). For full disclosure of these data flows, see the [Privacy Policy](./CellCog_Privacy_Policy.md). ### Where the Data Flows - Between Chrome and CellCog Desktop: locally via Chrome's Native Messaging — nothing leaves your machine for the extension's own operation - From CellCog Desktop to CellCog's servers: encrypted in transit (TLS), as part of your authenticated chat session - From CellCog to the LLM provider serving your chat: page content the agent reads becomes part of the chat context and is transmitted to the LLM provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google depending on the model chosen for that chat). Each provider has zero-data-retention API terms. --- ## Troubleshooting ### Extension installed but the page says "Not connected" 1. **Make sure the matching Chrome profile is actually open in Chrome.** The extension only connects when its profile is running. 2. **Make sure CellCog Desktop is connected.** Check `/cowork` for a green "Connected" status. 3. **Reload the extension.** Go to `chrome://extensions/`, find CellCog Browse, click the reload icon. Then revisit the Browse my Chrome page. 4. **Open any cellcog.ai tab** in that Chrome profile. Some connection paths use a wake signal from a cellcog.ai page to kick the extension's service worker awake faster. ### "Browse my Chrome is ready" but my chat says Browse is not connected This usually means the chat is bound to a different Chrome profile than the one with the extension installed. 1. Open the globe icon in the editor toolbar 2. Confirm which profile is selected for this chat 3. Either install the extension into that profile OR switch the chat to a profile that has the extension ### Yellow banner won't dismiss The yellow banner is Chrome's built-in indicator and only goes away in two situations: - The agent finishes its operation and the debugger detaches automatically - You click "Cancel" on the banner (which forcibly revokes access for that tab) If neither has happened and the banner persists, check that the CellCog Desktop app is still running. If Desktop quits mid-session, the debugger may stay attached until you reload that tab. ### Agent says "Tab not in CellCog group" The agent tried to act on a tab that hasn't been adopted into its workspace. Either: - Ask the agent to **adopt** the tab first (this is a moderate-level action and respects your threshold) - Or open the URL fresh inside the CellCog group (the agent can do this with `Browser` and `goto`) ### Wrong Chrome profile keeps getting picked When you click "Install →" in CellCog, Chrome opens new tabs in whatever profile is currently focused — not necessarily the profile you intended. If the extension landed in the wrong profile: 1. Disable / uninstall the extension from the wrong profile via `chrome://extensions/` 2. Switch to the intended profile in Chrome 3. Re-click "Install →" from the CellCog Browse my Chrome page --- ## Frequently Asked Questions ### Why do I need both the Desktop app AND the Chrome extension? The Desktop app is the trust boundary — it authenticates you and brokers every command to and from CellCog's servers. The Chrome extension is the small piece that talks to Chrome on the Desktop app's behalf. Splitting them keeps the powerful pieces (the Desktop app) under your direct control, and keeps the extension intentionally minimal. ### Does this work on Firefox or Safari? Not currently. Browse my Chrome supports Google Chrome only at launch. Microsoft Edge and other Chromium-based browsers are on the roadmap; Firefox and Safari are not currently planned because they don't expose an equivalent to `chrome.debugger`. ### Can the agent see tabs I have open outside the CellCog group? The agent can **list** them (only when you grant approval — `Browser_Tabs list` is classified moderate and requires your threshold to be ≥ moderate to auto-approve). It cannot **interact** with them. To interact with one, the agent must **adopt** it, which moves the tab into the CellCog group and is a separate, also-moderate action. ### Will my passwords or credit card numbers be sent to CellCog? No. Password fields and credit-card fields (number + CSC) are always redacted before any data leaves Chrome. The agent sees `` in those fields and cannot retrieve the real values. ### What happens to screenshots? Are they sent anywhere? Screenshots are saved to a temporary directory on your machine and made available to the chat session (so the AI can analyze them). They're transmitted to your chosen LLM provider as part of the chat context. They're not stored permanently by CellCog or shared elsewhere. ### What about banking pages or email? You can use Browse my Chrome on any site you like. Snapshotting a banking dashboard is classified **moderate** (reads private data, changes nothing); clicking "Transfer $1000" would be **dangerous**. Your threshold setting decides what runs without your click — most users keep the threshold at Safe or Moderate when working with sensitive surfaces. ### Does Browse my Chrome cost extra? No. Browse my Chrome is included with CellCog. Standard credit usage applies to the agent operations the same way Cowork does — credits are consumed by the agent's reasoning and tool calls, not by the act of having Browse enabled. ### Can teammates in my organization use my Browse session? No. Browse runs against your Chrome profile on your machine, authenticated as you. Organization members can't access your machine through CellCog. Updated actions become available --- ## Keys (raw API credentials) Some services aren't in the tools catalog, or an agent's scripts need a raw credential directly. The **Keys page** at Connectors → Tools → Keys ([cellcog.ai/connectors/keys](https://cellcog.ai/connectors/keys)) is the home for these. ### How Keys work - Add a key with a **service name**, a **key name** (e.g. `MY_SERVICE_API_KEY` — this is the environment variable name agents read in scripts), a **value**, and an optional description. - Values are stored **encrypted** and are **write-only**: after saving, a key can be rotated by re-adding the same name, but never read back. - In any chat where **Tools** is enabled, your keys are injected into the agent's workspace environment — available immediately, including keys added mid-conversation. Removing a key revokes access just as fast. - Keys are **account-level**: every agent working for you (regular chats and AI employees) sees the same keychain when Tools is on. - Connecting an API-key-based tool from the catalog also saves that credential as a key automatically — one paste covers both the tool connection and script access. - Disconnecting a tool removes its credentials from your account entirely. ### Keys vs Tools **Tools** are connections you authorize with a click — agents call their actions directly (send a Slack message, create a ticket). **Keys** are credentials you paste — agents' own scripts read them from the environment. If a service you search for isn't in the catalog, the search results offer "Connect it with an API key," which takes you to the Keys page. ## MCP Servers (bring your own tools) Beyond the tools catalog and Keys, you can plug in any remote **MCP server** — your company's internal tools, a self-hosted service, or any vendor that exposes an MCP endpoint. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is the open standard AI platforms use to connect to tool servers. ### How MCP servers work - Add a server on the **MCP servers page** at Connectors → Tools → MCP servers ([cellcog.ai/connectors/mcps](https://cellcog.ai/connectors/mcps)): give it a name, paste its **https URL**, and pick its authentication (none, or an API key sent as a Bearer or custom header). - CellCog connects, discovers the server's tools automatically, and keeps them in sync daily. You can refresh manually anytime. - The server's tools then work exactly like catalog tools: your agents discover them in tool search, and every call runs behind your **Tools approval threshold** — with one extra safeguard: calls to your own MCP servers are always treated as at least **moderate** risk, since a third-party server's tools aren't vetted by CellCog. - Your MCP servers are **private to your account** — no other user can see or call them. - Servers appear across the same surfaces as other connections: the Connectors hub, the Tools page, and the editor's Tools selector (where you can include or exclude them per chat). ### Good to know - A server's **URL and auth mode can't be edited** after adding — remove and re-add to change them (the page's "Change URL or auth" action walks you through it). - API-key values are held encrypted by our tools provider, never stored by CellCog, and never visible to agents. - Up to 10 servers per account; up to 500 tools per server. - If a server shows **Sync failed** or **Key rejected**, check that the URL is a public https MCP endpoint and the credential is current, then hit Refresh. ### MCP servers vs Tools vs Keys **Tools** = the built-in catalog (1,400+ services, one-click connect). **Keys** = raw credentials your agents' scripts read from the environment. **MCP servers** = your own tool servers, discovered and called like catalog tools. If a service isn't in the catalog: use Keys when you have an API key and the agent can script against the service's API; use MCP servers when the service (or your team) exposes an MCP endpoint — agents then get proper, schema-validated tools instead of raw scripting. ## Workflows Workflows are reusable automation sequences you can build visually. ### What Are Workflows? Workflows combine multiple tools and actions into a single, reusable process. Every setup below describes real workflows we run daily, including the specific tools and connections we use. --- ## The Core Strategy: One Repository, One Source of Truth You'll notice something across all our setups: almost every one connects to our **main repository** via Cowork. This isn't accidental — it's the most important architectural decision we've made for working with AI agents. We've been carefully developing our main repository to be a single source of truth for the entire company. It hosts: - All application code (frontend + backend) - Infrastructure and deployment configurations - Customer support documentation - Design documents and system architecture - Brand colors, assets, and style guidelines - Database connection instructions - Agent prompts and configurations By keeping everything in one structured place, we only need to make **one connection** (Cowork → main repository) and the agent has access to virtually everything about the company. It can research our codebase, read our docs, check our brand guidelines, understand our infrastructure — all from a single working directory. This is what makes the setups below surprisingly simple. The connections look minimal (often just "Cowork on our main repository"), but the real power is in what that repository contains. The more structured and comprehensive your repository is, the more capable your agents become. --- ## Setup 1: The Coding Agent (Most Used) **Mode:** Agent **Connections:** Cowork on our main repository This is our primary development workflow. Here's how it works: 1. A developer clones the main repository to their local machine 2. They start the backend and frontend servers locally, with all necessary secrets and environment variables configured 3. They open CellCog, enable **Cowork**, and set the working directory to the repo root 4. The agent explores the codebase, understands the project structure, and starts building The developer acts as a co-pilot — providing feedback, testing changes in the browser, sharing screenshots, and guiding direction. The agent writes the code, the human validates it works. ### Tools & Connections - **Cowork** pointed at the git repo - Local servers running (backend + frontend) - Developer reviews agent commands via the Cowork approval system ### Roles Within a Single Session A single coding session often spans multiple roles. The same agent naturally transitions through: - **Product Manager** — analyzing requirements, defining scope - **Prompt Engineer** — designing and refining agent prompts (we build AI agents, after all) - **Software Engineer** — writing the actual code - **Security Engineer** — reviewing for secrets, permissions, vulnerabilities - **Infrastructure Engineer** — handling deployment configs, startup scripts We don't switch agents between these roles — the same session handles all of them because the agent has full context of everything that's happened. ### The Marketing Bonus Once development is done, the same agent also drafts the product update blog post. Since it has deep context of exactly what was built and why, it produces highly specific, accurate marketing content. This is one of the unexpected benefits of single-session multi-role work — the agent that built the feature is the best one to announce it. ### Command Review: Our Evolution In the early days, we reviewed **every single command** the agent wanted to run on our machines — including reads. This was invaluable for understanding how agents think and building trust. Now we've relaxed: we auto-approve reads and writes inside the git-tracked repo. But we still review all terminal commands and anything outside the working directory. **Our recommendation:** Start cautious. Review everything. As you build confidence in how the agent operates, gradually relax your auto-approve settings. If you're working outside a git repo, always review every command. --- ## Setup 2: Multi-Session Development (Large Features) **Mode:** Agent **Connections:** Cowork on our main repository Some features are too large for a single session. Our billing system took 8-9 sessions. When this happens, we manage a careful handover process: ### The Handover Protocol We develop on a **feature branch** (not the main branch). This is critical for the multi-session strategy because it gives each new session a clear way to understand what changed. **Ending a session:** 1. **Identify a checkpoint** — a natural stopping point where the feature is partially complete but stable 2. **Ask the agent to write two documents:** - A **system design doc** of what's been built so far - A **handover doc** of what still needs to be done 3. Ask the agent to "critically self-review" both documents before ending **Starting the next session:** 1. Give the new agent the **system design doc** and **handover doc** 2. Ask it to review the **git diff against the main branch** — e.g., "What are all the changes that have been made in this repo compared to the main branch?" This is the most critical step. The agent reads the actual code changes from all previous sessions, not just the summary docs. 3. Once the agent is comfortable with all three inputs (design doc + handover doc + git diff), development continues These documents get continuously updated across sessions — each session appends its progress to the design doc and updates the handover doc with remaining work. ### Why This Works The three inputs give the new session a complete picture: - **System design doc** = the architecture and decisions made - **Handover doc** = what's left to do - **Git diff** = the actual code changes — this grounds the agent in reality, not just summaries Session 5 doesn't need to rediscover what sessions 1-4 built — it reads the design doc, understands the remaining work from the handover, and sees exactly what code was written via git diff. ### The Cost Trade-Off Multi-session development is inherently more expensive. A significant portion of tokens in session 2+ is spent on the agent understanding previous work — reading docs, analyzing git diffs, building context. This is expected and intentional. We optimize for accuracy over cost, because the cost of bugs in production is always higher than the cost of thorough context-loading. **Tip:** Ask the agent to "critically self-review" the design doc before ending a session. This catches inconsistencies and ensures the next session gets clean context. --- ## Setup 3: Deep Research Coding Agent (Complex Work) **Mode:** Agent Team (Core tier — or Max for the highest stakes) **Connections:** Cowork on our main repository For our most complex engineering challenges, we combine Agent Team mode with Cowork. This gives us a **deep research coding agent** — multiple agents that research deeply, debate approaches, and then implement directly in our codebase. We used this setup to improve our own deep research protocols. The agents analyzed our existing system, researched cutting-edge techniques, and then implemented improvements — essentially improving themselves. This is a unique capability: a deep reasoning, multi-agent system that can simultaneously research state-of-the-art approaches AND write production code. To our knowledge, no other platform combines deep research with direct code execution in a single workflow. ### When to Use This - Architecture decisions that need research (e.g., "what's the best approach for X?") - Performance optimization where you need to understand the problem deeply before coding - Any work where the cost of a wrong approach is high and you want multiple perspectives before committing --- ## Setup 4: Customer Support Agent **Mode:** Agent **Connections:** Gmail + Cowork on our main repository This is how we handle customer emails — including the one that inspired this entire documentation effort. ### The Workflow 1. Connect **Gmail** as a tool so the agent can read customer emails 2. Connect **Cowork** on the main repository so the agent can research our codebase and support docs 3. Ask the agent to read a specific email thread 4. The agent researches the customer's questions — diving into the codebase, reading design docs, checking support guides 5. It suggests a response (or in some cases, identifies product improvements needed first) ### What Makes This Powerful Customer questions often require deep understanding of how the product actually works — not just what the docs say. By giving the agent access to both the email and the codebase, it can trace a customer's confusion to the actual implementation and provide precise answers. Some customer emails arrive in different languages. The agent reads them, researches in English, and drafts responses in both the customer's language and English. For complex queries, the agent sometimes identifies that the best response isn't just an answer — it's a product improvement. It works each shift autonomously, writes a handover for the next shift, and flags anything that needs a human decision back to us ### Why This Is Different From a Scheduled Chat A scheduled chat runs a prompt on a timer and forgets. AI Employees act as your agent: you are responsible for their emails and actions, every email they send identifies you as the accountable human supervisor, and you must comply with anti-spam and privacy laws when directing their outreach (see Section 9). - Share content through Posts with the CellCog community. The Service may evolve over time. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with reasonable notice for material changes. --- ## 3. Account Registration and Eligibility - **Age Requirement:** You must be at least 18 years old (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. - **Accurate Information:** You must provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and keep your account information up to date. - **Account Security:** You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must notify us immediately at support@cellcog.ai if you become aware of any unauthorized use. - **One Account Per Person:** Each individual may maintain only one personal account. Subscription Plans, Credits, and Billing ### 4.1 Plans and Pricing CellCog offers tiered subscription plans with varying credit allocations and Drive storage. Current pricing is displayed on the billing page within your account. We reserve the right to modify pricing with at least 30 days' notice before your next billing cycle. ### 4.2 Credits AI operations consume credits. Subscription credits are granted each billing cycle and remain valid for 60 days after the billing period ends, giving you additional time to use them. Purchased top-up credits expire 12 months from the date of purchase. Bonus credits earned through referrals or promotions are subject to their specific terms. Credit consumption varies based on the complexity and type of operation (e.g., text generation, image creation, video production, deep research). ### 4.3 Billing and Payments - Payments are processed securely through Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges at the applicable rate. - Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly) unless you cancel before the renewal date. - Upgrades are prorated; downgrades take effect at the next billing cycle. - If a payment fails, you will receive notification and a grace period to update your payment method. Continued non-payment may result in service suspension. ### 4.4 Cancellation and Refunds You may cancel your subscription at any time through your account billing page. Upon cancellation: - You retain access to the Service and your subscription credits until the end of your current billing period. - Subscription credits remain valid for 60 days after the billing period ends, giving you additional time to use any remaining credits. After this 60-day window, unused subscription credits expire and are not transferable or redeemable for cash. - **No refunds** are issued for subscription fees already charged, including automatic renewals. It is your responsibility to cancel before the renewal date if you do not wish to continue. All payments made to CellCog are final and non-refundable, including but not limited to subscription fees, automatic renewal charges, and credit top-up purchases. Credits consumed during AI operations are non-refundable regardless of output quality or satisfaction. Unused subscription credits expire 60 days after the billing period ends and are not eligible for refund, credit, or transfer. ### 4.5 Credit Consumption Risk CellCog uses premium AI models to deliver state-of-the-art results. By purchasing credits or subscribing to a plan, you acknowledge and accept that: - **Unpredictable Consumption:** Credit consumption varies dramatically based on task complexity, AI model performance, number of iterations required, and other factors. We do not and cannot provide reliable cost estimates per task. - **No Guaranteed Output:** Spending credits does not guarantee a usable, accurate, or satisfactory output. AI models may produce errors, hallucinations, or results that do not meet your expectations. - **Industry-Wide Limitation:** This unpredictability is an inherent characteristic of current AI technology and is not specific to CellCog. You may spend significant time and money without receiving the output you intended. - **Non-Refundable:** Credits consumed during AI operations are non-refundable, regardless of output quality. Subscription credits expire 60 days after the billing period ends. Top-up credits expire 12 months from purchase. --- ### 4.6 Promotional and Complimentary Credits CellCog may from time to time grant promotional or complimentary credits, including free starter credits at account creation and limited-time promotional offers. The following terms apply to all such grants (including grants made under offers that have since been discontinued): - **No cash value.** Promotional, starter, and bonus credits have no cash value, are non-transferable, and are not redeemable or refundable. - **Expiry.** Promotional and bonus credits expire 12 months from the date of grant unless otherwise stated at the time of the grant. Where applicable, bonus credits are consumed after purchased credits. - **One grant per customer.** Starter credits and promotional offers are limited to one per person and per organization. Creating, registering, or using additional or duplicate accounts (including with different email addresses or payment methods) to claim starter credits or a promotional offer more than once is a material violation of these Terms. CellCog may revoke credits obtained through duplicate accounts and may suspend accounts engaged in systematic abuse. - **Verification.** CellCog may use payment-method and account signals (such as payment card fingerprints) to verify eligibility and detect duplicate claims. Flagged claims may be reviewed before credits are granted or retained. - **Changes.** Promotional grants may be modified or discontinued at any time, and their availability does not create an entitlement for existing customers or future accounts. - **Referral credits.** Credits earned through the CellCog referral program are separate and remain governed by the referral program's own terms. ## 5. Acceptable Use Policy You agree not to use the Service to: - Generate, distribute, or store content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable. - Generate malware, exploits, phishing content, or any material intended to compromise computer systems or networks. - Produce content that infringes on any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights. - Attempt to circumvent AI safety measures, content filters, rate limits, or other protective mechanisms. - Engage in automated scraping, systematic data extraction, or use the Service as input for competing AI systems without authorization. - Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation. - Use the Service for high-risk applications (medical diagnosis, legal advice, financial trading decisions) without appropriate human oversight and professional validation. - Use an AI Employee (or any agent) to send spam, unsolicited bulk email, or messaging that violates anti-spam laws (e.g., CAN-SPAM, CASL, GDPR/e-Privacy), or to harass, deceive, or impersonate any person. - Direct an AI Employee to contact individuals you have no lawful basis to contact, or to ignore opt-out or unsubscribe requests. - Configure an AI Employee to conceal that it is an AI agent, or to remove or falsify the human-supervisor disclosure shown on its emails. - Upload, download, store, or share content that infringes upon copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of any third party. - Interfere with or disrupt the Service, servers, or networks connected to the Service. - Violate any applicable law, regulation, or export control. We reserve the right to investigate violations and take appropriate action, including content removal, account suspension or termination, and reporting to law enforcement where required. --- ## 6. AI-Generated Content ### 6.1 Ownership You retain ownership of the content you provide to the Service ("Inputs"). Subject to these Terms and applicable law, you own the outputs generated by the Service based on your Inputs ("Outputs"), to the extent permitted by applicable intellectual property law. You grant CellCog a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use your Inputs and Outputs solely for the purpose of providing, maintaining, and improving the Service. ### 6.2 Limitations and Disclaimer - **No Guarantee of Accuracy:** AI-generated content may contain errors, inaccuracies, or "hallucinations." You are solely responsible for reviewing, validating, and fact-checking all Outputs before relying on or distributing them. - **No Professional Advice:** Outputs do not constitute professional, legal, medical, financial, or other specialized advice. Always consult qualified professionals for critical decisions. - **Non-Uniqueness:** Due to the nature of AI models, similar or identical Outputs may be generated for different users providing similar Inputs. - **Third-Party IP:** You are responsible for ensuring your use of Outputs does not infringe on third-party intellectual property rights. - **AI Agent Actions:** AI agents may misunderstand requirements, produce incorrect results, or take unintended actions. AI Employees may additionally act autonomously and send communications on your behalf without per-action approval — see Section 9. You bear responsibility for reviewing all agent work products and actions, and for the communications and actions of your AI Employees, before relying on them. ### 6.3 Content Shared via Posts When you share content publicly through CellCog Posts, you grant CellCog and other users a non-exclusive license to view, share, and interact with that content on the platform. You may remove shared content at any time by deleting the post. ### 6.4 Avatars, Voice Cloning, and Digital Replicas CellCog allows you to create digital avatars with reference images, cloned voices, and personality profiles. By using avatar features, you represent, warrant, and agree that: - **Likeness Rights:** You have all necessary rights, licenses, and consents to use any images, audio recordings, or other content you upload for avatar creation. - **Third-Party Consent:** If any uploaded content depicts or contains the likeness, voice, or other identifying characteristics of a real person (other than yourself), you have obtained that person's explicit, informed, written consent for the creation of a digital replica, voice cloning, and all intended uses. - **Legal Compliance:** You will comply with all applicable laws regarding digital replicas, voice cloning, and right of publicity, including but not limited to the Federal AI Voice Act, state right of publicity statutes, and international regulations. - **Prohibited Uses:** You will not use avatar features to create non-consensual intimate imagery, defamatory content, impersonations intended to deceive, or any content that violates the rights of any person. - **No Verification by CellCog:** CellCog is not responsible for verifying that you have obtained the necessary consents. You are solely liable for any claims arising from your use of avatar features. - **Enforcement:** CellCog may remove avatars or suspend avatar features if we have reason to believe they were created without proper consent or in violation of applicable law. --- ## 7. Drive — File Storage CellCog Drive provides personal cloud file storage that is deeply integrated with AI agents. By using Drive, you acknowledge and agree to the following: ### 7.1 User Responsibility You accept full responsibility for all files you upload, download, or store in Drive. CellCog does not review, screen, or endorse any content stored in Drive. You are responsible for ensuring your content complies with applicable laws and these Terms. You will not upload, download, store, or share any content that infringes upon the copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights of any third party. ### 7.2 AI Agent Access to Drive Drive is a sophisticated piece of infrastructure where AI agents can access, create, modify, and manage your files as part of normal Service operations (e.g., saving generated reports, images, videos, or other artifacts). This deep integration enables powerful workflows but carries inherent risks: - AI agents may accidentally overwrite, modify, or delete files while performing requested tasks. - Miscommunication between you and the AI agent — or the agent misunderstanding your requirements — may lead to unintended file modifications or data loss. - While we implement safeguards (such as trash retention and version history), no system is infallible. **CellCog is not responsible for data loss, file corruption, or unintended modifications resulting from AI agent operations on your Drive.** You are responsible for maintaining independent backups of critical data. ### 7.3 Data Recovery > ⚠️ **Important — Act Quickly in Case of Data Loss:** Drive is managed using Git-based version control protocols. If you notice any loss of data, missing files, or unintended changes in your Drive, you should **immediately contact support at support@cellcog.ai**. Our team can help you locate and recover lost data using the version history. > > **Time is critical.** The sooner you report an issue, the higher the chance of successful recovery. If you wait more than a few days, recovery may become significantly harder or the loss may become permanent. We strongly recommend contacting support within 24 hours of noticing any data loss. ### 7.4 Content Security and Privacy Content you store in Drive is protected and shared with others only when you explicitly authorize it (e.g., through organization sharing or public posts). CellCog may access your content only: (i) as necessary to provide the Service; (ii) as otherwise permitted by these Terms; (iii) as required by law, regulation, or order; and/or (iv) to respond to an emergency. ### 7.5 Storage Limits Drive storage is allocated based on your subscription plan. We may take action on accounts that exceed storage limits, including restricting uploads until storage is freed. Deleted files are moved to Trash and automatically purged after 30 days. ### 7.6 Prohibited Content You agree not to upload, download, or store any of the following in Drive: - Content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or obscene. - Child sexual abuse material or any content that exploits minors. - Malware, viruses, or other harmful code that may damage systems. - Spam, fraudulent materials, or phishing content. - Content that violates others' privacy or confidentiality rights. - Any content that violates applicable laws and regulations. --- ## 8. Desktop App — Cowork on my PC The CellCog Desktop app ("Cowork on my PC") allows AI agents to execute commands and access files on your personal computer. This is a powerful feature that provides significant productivity benefits but also carries inherent risks. By using this feature, you acknowledge and agree to the following: ### 8.1 Consent and Control - **Explicit Consent:** The desktop app only operates when you download, install, sign in, and explicitly enable it for a specific chat session. No access to your machine occurs without your affirmative action. - **Command Approval:** All commands initiated by AI agents are subject to your review and approval before execution, unless you have configured auto-approval settings. You are responsible for reviewing and understanding commands before approving them. - **Auto-Approve Settings:** CellCog provides granular auto-approval controls (read/write inside working directory, read/write outside working directory, and terminal execution). You may configure these settings based on your comfort level and risk tolerance. - **Human-in-the-Loop Monitoring:** CellCog provides a command review panel that shows you the full details of every operation the AI agent wants to perform on your machine, including threat level assessment, command summary, and exact command text. ### 8.2 Risks and Limitations > ⚠️ **Important — Risks of Cowork:** Despite the controls and safeguards CellCog provides, using Cowork carries inherent risks that you must understand and accept: > > - **Data Loss from Agent Errors:** AI agents may accidentally overwrite, delete, or corrupt files on your machine. Agents may misinterpret file structures, dependencies, or configurations, leading to unintended modifications. > - **Miscommunication:** AI agents may misunderstand your requirements or intent. Ambiguous instructions, incomplete context, or complex project structures can lead to agents taking actions you did not intend. This is especially true for complex codebases where a single misunderstood change can have cascading effects. > - **Auto-Approve Risks:** If you enable auto-approval settings (especially for write and execute operations), commands will run on your machine without your explicit review. You assume full responsibility for all actions taken under auto-approve settings. > - **System Instability:** Commands executed through Cowork may affect your system's stability, running processes, or development environment. ### 8.3 Your Responsibilities - **Backups:** You are responsible for maintaining regular backups of your data, code, and files before using Cowork. We strongly recommend using version control (e.g., Git) for all code projects and maintaining separate backups of critical data. - **Review Before Approval:** You should carefully review each command before approving it, especially terminal commands and file modifications. If you do not understand a command, deny it and ask the agent for clarification. - **Working Directory:** Set an appropriate working directory for each chat session to limit the scope of agent operations. - **Gradual Trust:** We recommend starting with conservative auto-approve settings and gradually expanding them as you become comfortable with the agent's behavior in your specific environment. ### 8.4 Scope of Access and Security - The app requests only the permissions necessary to perform the tasks you direct. Certain sensitive paths (e.g., SSH keys, credential files) are automatically blocked for security. - Command output is sanitized — credentials and secrets are automatically redacted. - Data in transit between your machine and CellCog servers is encrypted (TLS). - File contents accessed through Cowork may be transmitted to our servers for AI processing. We do not retain file contents beyond the duration necessary to complete the requested operation. - The desktop app may require periodic updates for security and compatibility. We may enforce minimum version requirements. ### 8.5 Limitation of Liability for Cowork **CellCog is not liable for any data loss, file corruption, code breakage, system instability, or any other damage resulting from commands executed on your machine through the desktop app — whether those commands were explicitly approved by you, auto-approved by your settings, or resulted from AI agent errors or miscommunication.** You use Cowork at your own risk and are solely responsible for the consequences of commands executed on your machine. --- ## 9. AI Employees An AI Employee is a standing, scheduled AI agent that works on your behalf — with its own email address, its own memory, and the ability to take actions across multiple work sessions ("shifts"), often **without approving each action first**. AI Employees are powerful and, because they can communicate and act in the world as your agent, carry responsibilities you must understand and accept. You acknowledged the core of these points at sign-up. ### 9.1 An AI Employee Acts as Your Agent An AI Employee acts **on your behalf and under your direction, as your agent**. **You are responsible for everything your AI Employee does** — every email it sends, every reply it makes, and every action it takes on a connected account — to the same extent as if you had done it yourself. You configure its goals, schedule, permissions, and the people and accounts it may contact or use. ### 9.2 Autonomous Operation; No Per-Action Approval Unlike a single chat, an AI Employee runs on a schedule (or on demand) and **may send email and take actions without showing you each one in advance**. You acknowledge that it can act while you are away, may misunderstand instructions, and may send communications or take actions you did not specifically foresee. You are responsible for monitoring your AI Employees and for reviewing their work and correspondence. ### 9.3 Its Own Email Address and Identity Disclosure Each AI Employee is assigned its own email address at the `@cellcog.com` domain and can send and receive email at that address. **Every email it sends carries a signature that identifies it as an AI Employee and names you — the human supervisor — together with your account email address.** This disclosure is intentional and non-removable: a recipient must always be able to see that there is an accountable human behind the AI and to contact that human directly. By using the AI Employee email feature, you consent to your name and account email being disclosed to the recipients (and repliers) of your AI Employee's email. If this disclosure is not appropriate for your use case, do not use the AI Employee email feature. ### 9.4 Email and Outreach — Your Compliance Obligations If you direct an AI Employee to send email or other outreach, **you represent and warrant that you have a lawful basis to contact each recipient and that the outreach complies with all applicable laws**, including anti-spam and electronic-messaging laws such as the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act, Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL), and the EU/UK GDPR and e-Privacy/PECR rules, and any other applicable laws in the recipient's jurisdiction. You agree to: - Honor opt-out and unsubscribe requests promptly. - Not use AI Employees to send spam, unsolicited bulk messaging, or harassing, deceptive, or unlawful communications. - Not configure an AI Employee to conceal that it is an AI agent, or to remove or falsify the human-supervisor disclosure. You acknowledge that, for the email your AI Employee sends at your direction, **you are the party that determines the purpose and means of contacting your recipients** (i.e., you are the data controller for your outreach), and CellCog processes that correspondence on your behalf to operate the mailbox. Section 11 (Third-Party Integrations and Connectors) applies to those actions, and **you are responsible for all of them**. You may revoke an integration's access at any time. ### 9.6 Credits and Autonomous Consumption AI Employees consume credits to run their shifts and actions, **including while you are away**. The credit-consumption risks described in Section 4.5 apply equally to AI Employees. You are responsible for credits consumed by your AI Employees. ### 9.7 Accountability and Abuse Because an AI Employee acts as you, recipients are shown the human supervisor's contact so they can raise concerns or report abuse. You agree to respond to legitimate complaints about your AI Employee's conduct. CellCog may suspend or remove an AI Employee, or your access to the feature, if we reasonably believe it is being used to send spam or unlawful, deceptive, harassing, or abusive communications, or otherwise in violation of these Terms. ### 9.8 Limitation of Liability for AI Employee Actions To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, **CellCog is not liable for the content of communications your AI Employee sends, the actions it takes on connected accounts, or any consequences of those communications or actions** — whether they resulted from your instructions, the agent's autonomous operation, or agent error or miscommunication. You use AI Employees at your own risk and are solely responsible for their communications and actions. --- ## 10. Intellectual Property The Service, including its underlying technology, AI models, software, design, logos, trademarks, and documentation, is owned by CellCog AI and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to access and use the Service for its intended purposes during your subscription term. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works of any part of the Service or its underlying technology, except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law. --- ## 11. Third-Party Integrations and Connectors The Service allows you to connect third-party services (e.g., Gmail, Slack, Google Drive, Jira) through integrations and workflows. By connecting a third-party service: - You authorize CellCog's AI agents to access and interact with those services on your behalf, within the permissions you grant. - You are responsible for complying with the terms of service of each connected third-party service. - CellCog is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or functionality of third-party services, or for any actions taken by AI agents on those services. - You may disconnect any integration at any time, which immediately revokes agent access to that service. - We recommend granting the minimum permissions necessary and reviewing agent actions regularly. - Third-party content you access through integrations is downloaded and processed at your own risk. You are solely responsible for verifying the legitimacy and safety of third-party content. ### 10.1 API Access and Programmatic Use If you access CellCog through our API, Python SDK, or other programmatic interfaces, the following additional terms apply: - **Full Account Access:** Your API key provides full access to your account. You are responsible for safeguarding your API key and for all activity conducted through it. - **Credit Consumption:** API usage consumes credits at the same rates as web usage. All credit consumption risks described in Section 4.5 apply equally to API usage. - **Automation Liability:** You are responsible for all actions taken by automated systems using your API key, including content generated, credits consumed, and any third-party interactions. - **No SLA:** CellCog does not guarantee API availability, response times, or uptime. No service level agreement (SLA) is provided unless separately negotiated. - **Rate Limits and Restrictions:** CellCog may impose rate limits, usage restrictions, or revoke API access at any time for abuse, excessive usage, or violation of these Terms. --- ## 12. Privacy and Data Protection Your use of the Service is also governed by our [Privacy Policy](./CellCog_Privacy_Policy.md), which describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information. This indemnity obligation survives the termination of your use of the Service. --- ## 17. Termination - **By You:** You may terminate your account at any time by contacting support@cellcog.ai or using the account deletion feature. Upon termination, your access to the Service will end, and your data will be deleted in accordance with our Privacy Policy. - **By Us:** We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if you materially breach these Terms, engage in prohibited conduct, or pose a security risk. For non-material breaches, we will provide notice and a reasonable opportunity to cure. - **Effect of Termination:** Upon termination, your license to use the Service ends. We may retain your content for up to 30 days after account termination for data export purposes, after which it may not be recoverable. Sections relating to intellectual property, limitation of liability, indemnification, and dispute resolution survive termination. - **Data Export:** We recommend exporting any data you wish to retain before terminating your account. While Browse my Chrome is enabled for a chat: - **What the agent can access:** The contents of pages inside the "CellCog" tab group only — this includes page text, the accessibility tree, form values, and the URL of each tab. The agent acts on tabs you have explicitly brought into the workspace. - **What the agent never accesses on its own:** Tabs outside the CellCog tab group, browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords, or any tab the user has not adopted into the workspace. - **Sensitive data redaction:** Password fields and credit-card fields are automatically redacted before any page content is read by the agent. - **Cookies, localStorage, and session data:** These are NOT auto-redacted. If the agent's script explicitly reads them (e.g., to authenticate an API call on your behalf), the data is included in the chat session and visible to the AI. The CellCog Browse skill instructs agents to treat such values as sensitive and not to log them unnecessarily. - **Screenshots:** When the agent captures a page screenshot, the image is saved to a temporary directory on your machine and made available to the chat. Screenshots may include any content visible in your browser, including private surfaces like email or banking pages. - **Where the data flows:** Locally between Chrome and CellCog Desktop via Native Messaging (no remote transmission for the extension itself). Once the agent reads page content as part of completing your task, that content becomes part of your chat session and is transmitted to the LLM provider serving that chat (see "Data Sharing and Disclosure" below). - **User control:** Chrome shows a yellow "CellCog Browse started debugging this browser" banner on every controlled tab. You can revoke control at any time by clicking "Cancel" on that banner. You can set an auto-approval threshold to require explicit approval for actions above a chosen risk level. - **What the extension stores:** Nothing of its own. The extension has no `storage` permission; all state lives in Chrome's own tab-group system and in CellCog Desktop. ### CellCog Desktop (Cowork) If you install the CellCog Desktop app and grant it access to a working directory on your machine (Cowork), your CellCog AI agent can read files, write files, and run terminal commands inside that directory: - **What the agent can access:** Files and directories inside the working directory you explicitly chose. The agent identifies each file or command's permission level (read, write, execute) and either auto-runs it or requests your approval, based on the auto-approval settings you configured. - **What the agent does NOT access on its own:** Files outside your chosen working directory, system credentials (e.g., SSH keys, browser cookie stores), or any blocked path. Certain sensitive paths are kernel-enforced as off-limits and credentials in command output are automatically redacted. - **Where the data flows:** Locally between the Desktop app and CellCog's servers over your authenticated session. File contents and command outputs that the agent reads as part of completing your task become part of your chat session and are transmitted to the LLM provider serving that chat (see "Data Sharing and Disclosure" below). - **User control:** You see every command and file change in an approval card before it runs (unless you have explicitly auto-approved that category). You can revoke working-directory access at any time from the CellCog Desktop app. ### AI Employees An AI Employee is a standing AI agent you create that works on a recurring schedule (or on demand), has its own email address, its own memory, and can take actions on your behalf. **Two points matter most up front: (1) every email your AI Employee sends names you, the human supervisor, with your email address, so recipients always know who is accountable; and (2) because your AI Employee corresponds with other people, we process the personal data of those people — most of whom are not CellCog users — on your behalf.** When you create and run an AI Employee, the following additional data practices apply. - **Its own email address.** Each AI Employee is assigned an address at `@cellcog.com` and can send and receive email there. We store the email it sends and receives — including message content, headers, recipients, timestamps, and attachments — to provide threading, history, and continuity across its work sessions, in the same way we store your chat history. - **Email from and to other people.** Because your AI Employee sends and receives email, we necessarily process the personal data of the people it corresponds with (their email address, name, message content, and anything they choose to include). **Most of these people are not CellCog users.** You direct who your AI Employee contacts and you are the party with the relationship to those recipients (see "Your Responsibilities for People Your AI Employee Contacts" below). We process this correspondence solely to operate your AI Employee's mailbox on your behalf; we do not use it to build independent profiles of those individuals or for our own marketing. - **Your identity is shown on every email (by design).** Every email your AI Employee sends carries a signature identifying it as an AI Employee and naming you, the human supervisor, with your account email address. This is intentional and cannot be removed: a recipient must always be able to see that there is an accountable human behind the AI and to reach that human directly. By running an AI Employee, you consent to your name and account email being disclosed to the recipients (and repliers) of its email. If this is not appropriate for your use case, do not use the AI Employee email feature. - **Actions on your connected accounts.** If you enable Personal Tools or other integrations for an AI Employee, it can take actions on the third-party accounts you connect (for example posting, messaging, or reading data) on your behalf, autonomously, within the permissions you granted. Those actions and their data are governed by this Policy and by the third party's own terms. You can disconnect any integration at any time. - **Autonomous, scheduled processing.** An AI Employee may process data and take actions while you are not present — on its schedule, or when woken by an inbound email or a trigger you configured (for example a new message in a connected app). Content it reads to do its work (emails, files, connected-app data) becomes part of its session and is transmitted to the LLM provider serving it, as described in "Data Sharing and Disclosure." - **Retention & deletion.** An AI Employee's mailbox, memory, and workspace are retained until you delete the AI Employee or your account. Deleting an AI Employee deletes its associated data on the same basis as deleting a chat (see "Data Retention"). ### Google User Data (Gmail) CellCog connects to Google's Gmail API using OAuth, with your explicit authorization, in two situations. Both use the Gmail mail scope (`https://mail.google.com/`); what we actually do under it in each situation is described below. **1. Dedicated outreach mailboxes.** If you use CellCog's cold-outreach feature, your AI Employee sends and receives email through dedicated outreach mailboxes — Google Workspace mailboxes on separate sending domains provisioned specifically for your outreach (never the Gmail account of any recipient). For these mailboxes: - **Read:** We read messages arriving at your outreach mailboxes so your AI Employee can see and respond to replies from the people you contacted. We poll each connected mailbox for new messages and store the correspondence in your AI Employee's mailbox history, exactly as described in the "AI Employees" section above. - **Send:** We send email from your outreach mailboxes on your behalf — the outreach messages and replies your AI Employee composes under your direction and within the sending limits and approvals you configured. **2. Your own Gmail account (optional).** If you choose to connect your own Gmail account to your AI assistant, it can manage that mailbox at your direction: reading and triaging mail, sending and replying, organizing messages with labels and filters, managing drafts, deleting messages you ask it to remove, and looking up your own contacts (read-only, via Google People API scopes you approve at connection time) to resolve recipients. Automated actions are governed by the permissions and approval settings you configure; deletion only ever occurs at your explicit direction. You can disconnect your Gmail account at any time from CellCog or from your Google account's security settings, which revokes our access. **What we do with this Gmail data — and what we don't:** - We use Gmail message data solely to provide these features to you: reading and triaging mail, threading conversations, sending mail you directed, and managing your mailbox at your direction. Message content your AI assistant reads to do its work is transmitted to the LLM provider serving it under zero-data-retention API terms, as described in "Data Sharing and Disclosure." - We do not use Gmail data for advertising. We do not sell it. We do not use it to train machine-learning or AI models. Humans do not read it, except with your explicit permission, where necessary for security or abuse investigation, to comply with applicable law, or where the data has been aggregated and anonymized for internal operations. - OAuth access tokens for connected mailboxes are encrypted at rest, and access is limited to the systems that operate the mailbox on your behalf. - You can disconnect any connected mailbox at any time (or delete your outreach domains), which revokes our access; you can also revoke access directly from your Google account security settings or Google Workspace admin console. Stored correspondence follows the retention rules above. **Limited Use disclosure:** CellCog's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the [Google API Services User Data Policy](https://developers.google.com/terms/api-services-user-data-policy), including the Limited Use requirements. ### Google User Data (Google Analytics — your connected account) Separately from the analytics cookies on our own website (described under "Cookies" below), you can optionally connect **your own Google Analytics account** to your AI assistant using OAuth, with your explicit authorization. When you do: - **Read (`analytics.readonly`):** Your AI assistant reads reports and metrics from your connected Google Analytics properties to answer the questions you ask about your website traffic and marketing performance. - **Manage (`analytics`, `analytics.edit`):** At your explicit direction, your AI assistant can manage your Google Analytics configuration — for example creating or updating properties, data streams, custom dimensions, and conversion events as part of analytics setup you requested. Every configuration change is initiated by your instruction and governed by the permissions and approval settings you configure. We use your Google Analytics data solely to provide these features to you. Report data your AI assistant reads to do its work is transmitted to the LLM provider serving it under zero-data-retention API terms, as described in "Data Sharing and Disclosure." We do not use your Google Analytics data for advertising, do not sell it, and do not use it to train machine-learning or AI models; humans do not read it except with your explicit permission, where necessary for security or abuse investigation, or to comply with applicable law. OAuth tokens are encrypted at rest. You can disconnect your Google Analytics account at any time from CellCog or from your Google account's security settings, which revokes our access. The Limited Use disclosure above applies equally to Google Analytics data received through Google APIs. ### Your Responsibilities for People Your AI Employee Contacts When you direct an AI Employee to contact people (for example, outreach emails), **you are responsible for having a lawful basis to contact them** and for complying with applicable anti-spam and data-protection laws — such as the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act, Canada's CASL, and the EU/UK GDPR and e-Privacy rules — including honoring opt-out and unsubscribe requests. For this correspondence, you determine the purpose and means of contacting your recipients (you act as the data controller for your outreach), and CellCog processes the correspondence on your behalf to operate the mailbox. A recipient who wishes to stop hearing from your AI Employee, or to exercise data-protection rights, can reply to the email or contact the human supervisor named in the signature; such requests are directed to you as the responsible party, and we will reasonably assist and, where we act as a processor, act on your documented instructions. See the Acceptable Use and AI Employees sections of our Terms of Service. ### Information Collected Automatically - **Usage Data:** We collect information about how you interact with our Service, including features used, time spent, and actions taken. - **Device Information:** We may collect information about your device, including browser type, operating system, and device identifiers. - **Log Data:** Our servers automatically record information including IP address, browser type, referring/exit pages, and timestamps. --- ## Cookies and Tracking Technologies ### What Are Cookies? Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit our website.
