OpenAI doubled the Work and Codex usage included in ChatGPT Pro 100 and Pro 500 on October 29, 2026, and canceled the Pro 200 cut it had announced a month earlier. Business Premium seats are part of the change too. Thibault Sottiaux, who leads Codex at OpenAI, posted it on X at 16:56 UTC: “We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today.”
OpenAI’s ChatGPT release notes file it under “More Work and Codex usage on Pro and Business Premium Plans”. The detail is narrower than “all usage limits”: the doubling applies to the Work and Codex allowance, Pro 200 doubles only for subscribers who were on the lower allowance, and the weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat stay where they were. We read the release notes, OpenAI’s Pro tiers help page, the Business release notes and Sottiaux’s post on October 29.

OpenAI doubled the Work and Codex allowance on ChatGPT Pro 100 and Pro 500 on October 29, 2026, effective the same day and with no price change.
The Pro 200 reduction announced on September 29 is canceled; subscribers on the lower allowance were doubled up to the higher one.
Existing subscribers get the higher allowance automatically, without waiting for renewal.
Business Premium is named in the change, but OpenAI’s pages give no per-seat figure.
Plus usage, Ultrafast access and the weekly GPT-6 Pro Chat limits on Pro 100 and Pro 500 stay the same.
OpenAI warns that a larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks.
§ 01What changed, plan by plan
| Plan | Monthly price | Work and Codex allowance | Weekly GPT-6 Pro messages in Chat |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $20 | Unchanged | No change announced |
| Pro 100 | $100 | Doubled | Unchanged |
| Pro 200 | $200 | Cut canceled; the lower allowance doubled to match the higher one | The lower limit now matches the higher one |
| Pro 500 | $500 | Doubled | Unchanged |
| Business Premium | $100 a seat billed annually, $125 monthly | Increased; the amount is not on OpenAI’s pages | Not stated |
The Pro tiers page spells out the mechanics: “Pro 100 and Pro 500 now include twice their previous Work and Codex allowance. On Pro 200, only the lower allowance doubled.” Nobody has to do anything to get it, because “existing subscribers receive it automatically without waiting for renewal.” New subscriptions start on the higher allowance, and prices do not change.
Business Premium is named in the release note’s heading and in Sottiaux’s post, but the entry’s body only describes the Pro plans. The Business release notes carry the identical text, so the size of the Business Premium increase is not on any OpenAI page we read. The seat prices in the table come from OpenAI’s pricing page, read October 28 for our API credits record.
OpenAI also sets expectations about what doubling buys. “A larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks.” Usage still depends on the model, the context and the speed mode: Fast mode uses the allowance at 2.5 times the Standard rate, and Ultrafast on GPT-6 Astra and GPT-6.1 Sol at 8 times.
§ 02The Pro 200 cut that will not happen
The reversal ends a month-long squeeze on the $200 plan. OpenAI paused new Pro 200 sign-ups on September 10. When it launched Pro 500 on September 29, it reopened Pro 200 with a lower included allowance, and told existing subscribers by email that they would keep their old allowance through October 29, then move to the lower one at the same price. OpenAI’s pages never stated how much lower.
October 29 was the last day of that grace period, and it is the day OpenAI called it off. “The reduction announced in our September 29 email is canceled,” the Pro tiers page now says. “If you already had the higher Work and Codex allowance, you keep it. If you had the lower allowance, it has doubled to match.” Sottiaux put it more plainly: “We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200.”
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| Sep 10 | New Pro 200 sign-ups paused |
| Sep 29 | Pro 500 launches; Pro 200 reopens with a lower allowance |
| Oct 28 | Pro and Business plans get free API credits |
| Oct 29 | Grace period ends; the cut is canceled and allowances double |
§ 03What did not change
- Plus. “Plus usage is unchanged.”
- Weekly Chat limits on Pro 100 and Pro 500. Both “keep their current weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat.” Those limits are separate from the Work and Codex allowance.
- Ultrafast. It stays on Pro 500 only, and buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 still does not unlock it.
- dots. Sottiaux said OpenAI will “continue offering extended limits for dots for now”, and a dot’s usage stays separate from the default allowance. Our dots record covers the agent.
§ 04Our read
This is OpenAI’s second gift to its top plans in two days, after free API credits of up to $500 a month on October 28. Heavy users are where the labs now compete, and usage is the currency: Anthropic has been testing larger and smaller budgets on Claude Max at the same time. A doubled allowance is worth the most to people who run Codex all day.
CellCog sells something different from a bigger allowance. An AI employee holds a role at your business, keeps their own memory and task board, works on their own secure computer and hands back finished work. On CellCog you pay for the work, not the hire, and the cost depends purely on how much work you assign.
§ 05What we are watching
- A number for Business Premium. OpenAI names the plan but gives no per-seat figure.
- Multiples of Plus. The Pro tiers page now ranks the plans against each other instead of stating multiples of the Plus allowance.
- Weekly Chat limits, which did not move on Pro 100 and Pro 500.
§ 06Update log
As of October 29, 2026, 18:00 UTC: page opened from OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Business release notes, its Pro tiers help page and Thibault Sottiaux’s post on X at 16:56 UTC.
Q1Did OpenAI double every ChatGPT limit?
No. The doubling covers the Work and Codex allowance. Weekly GPT-6 Pro message limits in Chat stay the same on Pro 100 and Pro 500, and Plus is unchanged.
Q2What happens to my Pro 200 plan?
The reduction OpenAI announced on September 29 is canceled. If you had the higher allowance you keep it; if you had the lower one it doubled to match. The price stays $200 a month.
Q3Is Business Premium included?
OpenAI’s release note names Business Premium, but its pages give no per-seat figure for the increase.
Q4Does Pro 200 get Ultrafast now?
No. Among Pro plans, Ultrafast stays on Pro 500 only, and buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 does not unlock it.
Q5Will I finish twice as many tasks?
Not necessarily. OpenAI says a larger allowance does not guarantee twice as many completed tasks, because usage depends on the model, the context and the speed mode.
