Anthropic announced on October 8, 2026 that it is “committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission”, the federal initiative to speed up scientific discovery with AI. It made the announcement at the Science: A New Golden Age summit hosted by the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy in Washington, and it was one of eleven companies on the same list.
The White House fact sheet, published at 15:05 UTC the same day, counts the whole: “$2.4B in SI for science tools and compute credits for the Genesis Mission Consortium from eleven industry partners”. This page lists who gave what, from that fact sheet and the companies’ own posts.

Anthropic announced on October 8, 2026 that it is committing $150 million over three years to the Genesis Mission, the federal initiative to speed up scientific discovery with AI, at the White House summit Science: A New Golden Age.
The White House fact sheet puts the total at $2.4 billion in tools and compute credits from eleven companies. NVIDIA leads at $1 billion, then AMD at $500 million and OpenAI at $200 million; Anthropic and Google give $150 million each.
Anthropic’s money goes to access, not grants: Claude, Claude Code and API credits for several hundred Genesis Mission research projects, close work with national labs on fusion and quantum computing, and training for scientists.
The Genesis Mission was launched by executive order in November 2025. The White House says it now spans more than 15 federal agencies, after a July expansion that added a $5 billion federal commitment.
This builds on Anthropic’s December 2025 partnership with the Department of Energy, which brought Claude to scientists across the national laboratories.
§ 01Who committed what
| Company | Commitment |
|---|---|
| NVIDIA | $1 billion |
| AMD | $500 million |
| OpenAI | $200 million |
| Anthropic | $150 million |
| $150 million | |
| AMP | $100 million |
| Emerald AI | $100 million |
| AWS | $50 million |
| Armada | $50 million |
| Crusoe | $50 million |
| Micron | $50 million |
| Total | $2.4 billion |
The eleven amounts add up to exactly $2.4 billion. NVIDIA alone is $1 billion, which it describes as a five-year commitment. Anthropic’s is the only AI lab pledge with its period stated on the company’s own page: three years.
§ 02What Anthropic’s $150 million buys
Anthropic says the funding “will go toward making Claude available to more than 15 agencies that are part of the mission, including NASA, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation.” Over three years it lists three things:
| Line | What Anthropic says it will do |
|---|---|
| Access | Provide Claude, Claude Code, and API credits to several hundred Genesis Mission research projects |
| Priorities | Partner with agencies and national laboratories on top science priorities, including fusion energy and quantum computing |
| Support | Provide training, onboarding, and technical support to scientists, and help agencies new to the mission run their first projects |
It frames the pledge as a continuation. Anthropic announced a partnership with the Department of Energy on December 18, 2025, aimed at “all 17 of America’s national laboratories”, and the new post says it has since “worked with DOE to bring Claude to scientists across the national laboratories.”
§ 03What the Genesis Mission is
The mission was created by executive order in November 2025, with the Department of Energy running it through its national laboratories. The fact sheet says it “follows the expansion of the Genesis Mission in July to over 15 Federal agencies and a $5 billion Federal commitment to support National Science & Technology Challenges across energy, health, space, and more.”
§ 04What this means for buyers
Our conflict, declared: we build CellCog, and every tier of our AI employees runs on Claude Opus 5.5. Nothing in this announcement changes what a business can buy. What it shows is where the labs are placing their models: inside federal science, with credits rather than cash, and in Anthropic’s case alongside its own research workbench, Claude Science, and an earlier $100 million program for engineers.
§ 05What we are watching for
- Company posts for the remaining amounts. OpenAI, Google, AMD and the smaller partners had not, at publication, posted their own figures that we could read.
- The first funded projects. Which of the several hundred Genesis projects get Claude credits, and from which agencies.
- The period of each pledge. Only Anthropic (three years) and NVIDIA (five years) state one.

Q1What is the Genesis Mission?
A federal initiative, created by executive order in November 2025, to use AI to speed up scientific and technological discovery. The Department of Energy runs it with its national laboratories, and the White House says it now spans more than 15 federal agencies.
Q2Which agencies will get Claude?
Anthropic says the funding will make Claude available to more than 15 agencies in the mission, naming NASA, the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
Q3How does Anthropic's pledge compare with OpenAI's?
OpenAI is listed at $200 million and Anthropic at $150 million in the White House fact sheet. Anthropic states its amount runs over three years; the fact sheet does not give a period for the others.
Q4What scientific areas does Anthropic name?
Fusion energy and quantum computing, as part of the administration’s top science priorities. Anthropic also points to Claude Science, its research workbench, and the Model Hardware Standard for agents that operate lab instruments.
Q5Does this change anything for CellCog users?
No. Every CellCog tier runs Claude Opus 5.5, and the Genesis credits go to federal research projects. It is a signal of where Claude is being deployed, not a change in what you can buy.
