Most small businesses run marketing on five or six separate tools and still have nobody who owns the campaign. We ranked nine AI marketing tools on how much of the marketing job they take off a small team, with every price read on the vendor’s own pricing page on November 3, 2026. We make CellCog, and it is in the table; the conflict is declared under it.

An AI marketing tool does one marketing job with AI built in: design, copy, email, social scheduling or SEO research. A small business usually needs five of those jobs done every week.
The category holds three kinds of tool: single-job tools (Canva, Jasper, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Buffer, Semrush, Surfer), all-in-one platforms (HubSpot Marketing Hub), and AI employees that run the campaign.
CellCog ranks first for small businesses because one AI employee plans the campaign, writes the copy, makes the images and videos and reads the results, then asks before anything is published.
HubSpot Marketing Hub is the pick for one platform with CRM, email and automation: a free plan for up to 2 users, and Starter at $20 a month per seat.
The cheapest paid plans read on November 3, 2026: Buffer Essentials at $5 a month per channel billed yearly, Canva Pro at US$144 a year, Mailchimp Standard from $20 a month.
Pick by who does the marketing work: you, across five tools; you, inside one platform; or an employee that does the work and waits for your yes.
§ 01Three kinds of AI marketing tool
The label covers three different products, and buying the wrong kind is the usual disappointment.
Single-job tools each do one part well, so a full campaign means several logins and someone to carry the work between them. An all-in-one platform puts contacts, email and automation in one place, but someone still has to plan and build every campaign inside it. An AI employee takes the role: it reads the brief, plans the campaign, produces the pieces and hands them to you to approve.
§ 02The AI marketing tool rankings
| Rank | Tool | Cheapest listed plan | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | CellCog | Plans from $8/mo; usage-based; you pay for the work, not the hire | Plans multi-channel campaigns, writes briefs and positioning, produces social posts, landing pages, ad images, short videos and decks, analyzes the results you paste in; asks before publishing | Small businesses with nobody who owns marketing |
| 2 | HubSpot Marketing Hub | Free plan for up to 2 users; Starter $20/mo per seat | CRM, email marketing, simple automation and ad management, with AI agents for content and data | Teams that want contacts, email and automation in one platform |
| 3 | Canva | Free plan; Pro US$144/yr for one person | Design app with AI tools, brand kits, social scheduling and AI ad creation | Designing visuals yourself |
| 4 | Semrush | SEO $117.33/mo billed annually | Keyword research, competitor analysis, rank tracking and AI search visibility | SEO and AI search research |
| 5 | Jasper | Pro $59/mo per seat billed yearly | On-brand marketing copy with brand voices, audiences and marketing agents | Teams writing a lot of copy |
| 6 | Mailchimp | Free under 250 contacts; Standard from $20/mo | Email marketing with generative AI features and automations | Newsletters and email automations |
| 7 | Hootsuite | Standard $99/mo per user, billed annually | One calendar for up to 10 social accounts, AI posts and images, one inbox, brand monitoring | Social teams posting every day |
| 8 | Buffer | Free for 3 channels; Essentials $5/mo per channel billed yearly | Social scheduling with an AI assistant and analytics | Solo posting on a budget |
| 9 | Surfer | AI Search Analytics $82/mo billed yearly; Standard $99/mo billed yearly | Content optimization and tracking of brand visibility in AI answers | Optimizing articles to rank |
Conflict of interest: CellCog wrote this ranking and sits at number one. The ranking rewards how much of the marketing job one tool owns for a small business, which is how CellCog is built. If you already have a marketer and need one place for contacts, email and automation, HubSpot Marketing Hub at number two is the better buy, and we say so in the FAQ.
§ 03Why this order
CellCog is first because the whole marketing role sits in one AI employee: per our AI marketing manager page (November 2026), it plans and runs multi-channel campaigns, writes briefs and positioning, produces the assets (social posts, landing pages, one-pagers and ad creative, plus images, short videos and decks) and analyzes campaign numbers you paste in. It asks before publishing by default. It is not a CRM or an email sending platform, and the strategy and final call stay with you.
HubSpot Marketing Hub is second and wins for teams that need a system of record: contacts, email, automation and ad management in one platform, a free plan for up to 2 users and Starter at $20 a month per seat. Canva is third for anyone who designs: a free plan, Pro at US$144 a year, brand kits and AI ad creation.
Semrush is the pick for keyword and competitor research and for tracking how you show up in AI search. Jasper wins on copy volume with stored brand voices. Mailchimp is the simplest way to run email, free under 250 contacts. Hootsuite and Buffer schedule social posts, Hootsuite for teams across many accounts and Buffer for one person on a budget. Surfer optimizes articles and tracks visibility in AI answers.
§ 04Cheapest listed plan, side by side
| Tool | Price | Basis |
|---|---|---|
| Buffer | $5 | Essentials, 1 channel, billed yearly |
| Canva | $12 | Pro, US$144 a year for one person |
| HubSpot | $20 | Marketing Hub Starter, per seat |
| Mailchimp | $20 | Standard, starts at |
| Jasper | $59 | Pro, per seat, billed yearly |
| Surfer | $82 | AI Search Analytics, billed yearly |
| Hootsuite | $99 | Standard, per user, billed annually |
| Semrush | $117.33 | SEO, billed annually |
The single-job prices add up: Canva Pro, Mailchimp Standard, Hootsuite Standard and Semrush SEO together come to about $248 a month at the plans above, before anyone does the work. CellCog is left out of the chart because it is usage-based: the cost depends on how much work you assign, and the pricing page has the figures.
§ 05Where CellCog stands, angle by angle
| Angle | CellCog | Who wins instead, if not us |
|---|---|---|
| Plans the whole campaign | A brief, a calendar and the pieces from one ask | |
| Produces images, video and decks | Part of the same request | |
| Waits for your yes | Asks before publishing by default | |
| Contacts and email at volume | Not a CRM or an email sending platform | HubSpot, Mailchimp |
| Keyword and rank databases | Not an SEO database | Semrush |
| Scheduling across many accounts | Not a social calendar | Hootsuite, Buffer |
| Designing by hand | Not a design canvas | Canva |
| Flat public monthly price | Usage-based, plans from $8/mo | Buffer, Canva |
§ 06How to choose
- If nobody on the team owns marketing, choose CellCog.
- If you need one place for contacts, email and automation, HubSpot Marketing Hub.
- If you enjoy designing, Canva.
- If SEO is your main channel, Semrush for research and Surfer for optimizing articles.
- If you mostly need words, Jasper.
- If email is the whole plan, Mailchimp; if social is, Buffer alone or Hootsuite for a team.
- Whatever you pick, review the first campaign against your brand before anything goes out.
§ 07The honest caveats
Prices change often, and several above are annual-billing rates: Jasper Pro is $69 a month billed monthly, Semrush SEO $139, and Hootsuite shows prices based on annual billing. HubSpot shows $7 a month per seat on Starter as a discount for new customers only, and Professional starts at $800 a month with 3 seats. Mailchimp lists overages above its contact and send limits, and Buffer charges per channel. AdCreative.ai is not ranked because its pricing page returned “Page Not Found” the day we read it.
