Clark, a New York company that builds AI for auditors, launched Clerks on November 2, 2026: AI employees that perform audit work for CPA firms. It also announced an $11 million seed round led by Touring Capital.
The pitch is not a chat window for accountants. A Clerk is assigned to an engagement the way a staff auditor would be, and keeps the work moving between the moments a human looks at it. Here is what Clark announced, what a Clerk does and does not do, and the guarantee it put behind the work.
Clark launched Clerks, AI employees that perform audit work for CPA firms, on November 2, 2026, with an $11 million seed round led by Touring Capital.
With a $5 million round in September 2025, Clark has raised $16 million. It was formerly called uiAgent and is based in New York.
A Clerk is assigned to an engagement like a staff auditor: it reviews documents, runs tests, prepares workpapers and chases clients for missing items.
Licensed CPAs still make the professional judgments, review the work and sign the audit opinion.
Clark offers CPA firms a 100% accuracy guarantee and a peer review guarantee, and says more than 35 firms already use it.
§ 01What Clark announced
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Product | Clerks, autonomous AI employees for audit work |
| Buyers | CPA firms; more than 35 use Clark today |
| Named firms | CliftonLarsonAllen, Aprio, Kreischer Miller, Sensiba |
| New round | $11 million seed, led by Touring Capital |
| Returning investors | Marathon Management Partners, Rerail, Sofeon Ventures |
| Total raised | $16 million, with the $5 million round of September 2025 |
| Platform | Material Intelligence: agent harness, document processing, layered memory |
| Former name | uiAgent; headquartered in New York |
The round will pay for a larger senior team across product, engineering and sales, more firms and engagement types, and audit work for government programs. Clark’s release cites a GAO estimate that the federal government loses $233 billion to $521 billion a year to fraud.
§ 02What a Clerk does, and what it does not
Each Clerk works through audit areas from start to finish: reviewing documents, performing tests and preparing workpapers. When something is missing, it requests it from the client, tracks the response and resumes the work when the information arrives, without anyone prompting it again.
| Task | Clerk | Licensed CPA |
|---|---|---|
| Review client documents | Yes | Reviews the work |
| Perform audit tests | Yes | Reviews the work |
| Prepare workpapers | Yes | Reviews the work |
| Chase missing items from the client | Yes | No longer has to |
| Professional judgments | No | Yes |
| Sign the audit opinion | No | Yes |
The founder is open that this is a step, not the end state. “Today they work alongside auditors,” Enes Witwit, Clark’s founder and CEO, said in the release. “We are building toward fully autonomous audit employees, and toward an economy whose claims are verified as they happen, so fraud and waste are caught while the money is still there.”
Touring Capital’s Priya Saiprasad put the difference from a tool in one line: “Clark’s Clerks don’t wait to be asked.”
§ 03The guarantee
The unusual part is the money. Clark offers CPA firms a 100% accuracy guarantee and a peer review guarantee. “A promise of accuracy only means something when it has money behind it,” Witwit said. “If AI is going to do the work, the company that built it should answer for it.”
The release does not publish the terms: what counts as an error, what Clark pays, or how a claim is made. Firms weighing it should ask for those in writing.
§ 04What it says about AI employees
Clark’s choices line up with what makes an AI employee different from an assistant: an assignment instead of a prompt, memory that carries context forward, follow-up without a nudge, and a human who owns the judgment and the signature. Audit adds the hard edge of liability, which is why the guarantee and the CPA sign-off sit at the center of the launch.
