Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, a standalone app where Claude works as a proactive agent instead of waiting for you to open a chat. In Anthropic’s words on X, it “comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf.”

This page reads Anthropic’s Claude Duet product page and its announcement. Duet is on a waitlist, so what follows is what Anthropic says it does, not a test.

  1. A phone with one message bubble.
Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet on October 21, 2026, a standalone app where Claude works as a proactive agent.
  2. A sunrise over a short list.
Duet sends a morning brief, flags what needs you in your inbox and calendar, and drafts replies for you to approve.
  3. A cloud holding a small computer screen.
It works on its own computer in the cloud, using apps you connect, and Anthropic says it works with more than 6,000 connectors and plugins.
  4. A send arrow behind an approve check.
Duet asks before sensitive operations like sending messages or paying.
  5. A clipboard with a waiting list.
It runs on Opus 5.5 and is on a waitlist for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US; Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet.

§ 01What Duet does

  • A morning brief. “Claude Duet briefs you every morning, drafts next steps, then goes quiet until something needs you.”
  • Tasks by message. Text or voice, no setup. “Send a message and it sets up a meeting or builds a dashboard, then shares when it’s done.”
  • Business chores. Anthropic lists finding unpaid invoices and drafting reminders, preparing payroll for review and getting contracts ready to send, plus briefs, decks and dashboards.
  • Your existing Claude. Memory, skills and connected apps carry over from the Claude app, “all in one thread.”

§ 02How it stays in check

Duet “works on its own computer in the cloud, using apps you connect.” The guardrails Anthropic names:

  • It “asks you before sensitive operations like sending messages or paying.”
  • “Approvals, logins, and safety checks run in your own cloud computer, so sensitive details stay private.”
  • You can see what it has done and is doing, and steer it.

Anthropic is direct about the limits of a preview: “It may misread a thread or miscalibrate what’s urgent, and it can miss something that arrives between checking in with you.”

§ 03Who gets it and what it costs

Duet runs on Opus 5.5. It is “a research preview on a waitlist for Claude Pro and Max subscribers in the US.” Team and Enterprise plans are not included yet. There is no separate price: Duet “shares your plan’s usage limits with the rest of Claude,” and its background checks count toward them, so larger tasks like a financial model use more. It ships as an iOS and Android app, and on a computer it opens at claude.ai.

§ 04Duet next to an AI employee

Duet is a personal agent: one assistant, one thread, working for one person. We build the other shape, so here is the honest comparison. Both run on Claude Opus 5.5.

Reach Your inbox, calendar and 6,000+ connectors 1,500+ connected tools, its own email inbox, optional phone number
Several at once One agent Several employees that form teams and hand work to each other

If what you want is a sharp personal assistant inside the Claude you already pay for, Duet is the obvious thing to try once your waitlist spot opens. If you need several roles covered for a business, each with its own inbox, memory and tools, that is the job AI employees are built for.

§ 05What to watch

  • When the waitlist opens wider, and whether Team and Enterprise plans follow.
  • How Duet’s background checks weigh on Pro and Max usage limits in practice.
  • Whether Anthropic publishes a separate price once the preview ends.
